WAIT STAFF/ATTENDANT
DEFINITION: This is responsible wait staff/attendant work performing a wide variety of food-related and personal services at the Governor's Residence.
An employee in this job attends to the needs of the First Family. Work includes performing a variety of tasks that involve greeting guests at the Residence; serving meals for the Governor, the First Family, and guests; performing catering, wait staff and bartending services; ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies; and assisting with housekeeping duties at the Residence. Considerable independent judgment is used in carrying out these duties and responsibilities to ensure the high quality standards of the Governor's Residence. General direction and instructions are provided by the Governor, the First Family, and the immediate supervisor.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Attends to official and office entrances to greet guests to the Governor’s Residence; assists with coats, luggage, etc.; and announces guests for social and business functions.
Carries out a variety of functions related to the State Kitchen, Family Kitchen, and dining areas to maintain them in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition.
Serves meals to the Governor, the First Family and guests.
Designs and sets up inside catered events and monitors the performance of contracted caterers to ensure the proper usage of supplies and equipment and compliance with acceptable standards.
Sets tables for meetings, dinner parties, receptions and luncheons; serves food and beverages; cleans tables after functions; and cleans and returns dishes to proper areas.
Sets up, tends and maintains the bar area at events.
Requisitions and maintains computerized inventories including linen, china, silverware, glassware, candles, paper products, beverages, supplies and various food items.
Operates various systems, such as sound, lighting, intercom, telephone, and thermostat controls at the Residence.
Performs a variety of housekeeping duties, such as cleaning and polishing silver, glassware, trays, and other valuable items and antiques.
Mops and waxes floors; empties trash; washes and stores dishes; sets fireplaces and ensures sufficient firewood; cleans and maintains outdoor furniture and a screened-in porch area.
Supports facility operations by providing courier service, running errands, making urgent deliveries, and picking up orders.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the safety practices, equipment and materials used in food service operations.
Knowledge of proper table setting and serving techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two years of wait staff experience for a restaurant or catering service;
or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess and maintain a valid non-commercial Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license or equivalent.
