LAUNDRY WORKER
DEFINITION: This is manual work in the performance of standardized tasks in a laundry at a Commonwealth facility.
Employees in this class perform manual laundry work and operate a variety of machines in a laundry having a hot and humid working environment. Work is performed in accordance with established routines, and any change in procedure is discussed with a superior. Supervision is received from a Laundry Supervisor
who checks work through observation of the methods used in performing assigned tasks and by inspecting finished work.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Marks, counts, and sorts incoming laundry, and counts and checks finished laundry.
Operates laundry machines such as washers, extractors, tumblers, steam tunnels, garment presses, flatwork ironers, and mending, marking and linen and clothing repair equipment.
Folds clothing and linens in a prescribed manner.
Cleans laundry equipment and surrounding work areas.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to learn the operation and care of washers, extractors, tumblers, garment presses, flatwork ironers, steam tunnels, mending and marking equipment, and linen and clothing repair equipment.
Ability to learn the safety precautions required in laundry operations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Ability to make minor repairs on laundry machines.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to work while standing, under conditions of high temperature and humidity.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade;

Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
