DUPLICATING MANAGER 2
DEFINITION: This is managerial and administrative work in the duplication of graphic arts material in a large, full-service duplicating shop.
An employee in this class directs a large, full-service shop. A full-service shop includes photolithography, bindery, composition, skilled offset press work, including multi-impression color duplication and forms design. Work includes planning and assigning work, determining work priorities, setting goals, reviewing work performance, evaluating employee work performance, resolving employee grievances and interpreting rules, regulations, policies and standards. Work may involve providing duplicating services for other agencies. Work is accomplished through subordinate supervisors. Work is received in the form of duplicating requests and is reviewed by an administrative superior for quality and adherence to established standards.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Directs, through subordinates supervisors, a duplicating shop of fifteen or more employees engaged in photolithography, bindery, composition, offset press work and forms design services.
Plans and organizes work, assigns work, determines work priority, sets goals, reviews work performance and evaluates employee work performance.
Interviews prospective employees and recommends employee selection or ranks applicants in terms of preferability of employment.
Receives grievances and complaints, conducts initial investigation into causes and conditions, discusses with employee and resolves or recommends and solutions to grievances or complaints.
Initiates corrective disciplinary action for minor misconduct by employees and recommends major corrective disciplinary actions or dismissals.
Receives, reviews and approves or disapproves requests for leave.
Trains subordinates in the proper operation and maintenance of the machines used in a large, full service duplicating shop.
Reviews duplicating requests and determines most appropriate method of reproduction.
Advises agency or agencies on improvements in the layout of forms, phamplets, booklets and other material.
Monitors finished products for adherence to established standards.
Reviews new equipment and recommends purchase of new equipment.
Maintains records on shop operation, production and cost records and prepares reports as necessary.

Maintains inventory of supplies and initiates orders to replenish stock as needed.
Maintains machines in operating condition by insuring they are cleaned and lubricated and performing minor repairs and adjustments.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and application of cameras, platemakers, and lithographic presses.
Knowledge of the papers, inks, fluids and chemicals used in camera work and offset printing.
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, application and uses of bindery and composing equipment.
Knowledge of the principles of art and copy preparation for offset duplication.
Ability to plan, organize, assign, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
Ability to train subordinates in proper machine operation and maintenance.
Ability to supervise subordinates effectively.
Ability to read and interpret departmental regulations and bargaining unit contracts applicable to the organizational unit.
Ability to apply the principles and practices of safety applicable to the work performed by the unit.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year as a Duplicating Manager 1; or five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of duplicating machines, including two years of skilled operation of a lithographic press or camera and two years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
