FORMS LAYOUT SPECIALIST 1

DEFINITION: This is introductory specialized work in the layout of forms and paste-up pamphlets and similar materials.

An employee in this class is responsible for preparing the final layout for forms and paste-up for pamphlets and similar materials. Work involves measuring the layout, fitting and paste-up of copy, and preparing material for duplication. Work includes technical lettering of signs, posters, and flyers. Employees receive work from administrative technical superiors in the form of rough drafts or verbal instructions. Employees work with increasing independence as experience is gained, but closer supervision is received on complex projects.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: Prepares from detailed instructions the paste-ups for pamphlets and similar materials, letters, reports.

Prepares from detailed instructions the layout for signs, posters, new or revised office forms.

Uses pen and ink, or pencil to draw in the lines for forms, letters, reports, pamphlets and similar materials.

Selects the type font used on forms or pamphlets and similar materials.

Operates mechanical lettering devices to prepare headings in large or unusual type.

Maintains a file of form masters for reference purposes.

Prepares materials for duplication.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Business English, spelling, and arithmetic.

Some knowledge of the principles, techniques, and methods of forms design and publication paste-up work.

Some knowledge of the methods, techniques, and operations involved in the preparation of copy for duplication.

Skill in the use of tools, equipment, and materials used in publication paste-up or forms layout work.

Ability to prepare and design the layout for charts, and office forms.

Ability to prepare and paste-up for pamphlets and similar materials.

Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two years of clerical experience which must have included six months of forms layout and publication paste-up work; and graduation from high school, or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
