INVENTORY CONTROL CLERK (Housing)

 

Definition:

This is responsible specialized inventory work in a housing authority supply room.

An employee in this class is responsible for the receipt, storage, maintenance, distribution, and recordkeeping operations for all materials, supplies, and tools of considerable value used in housing projects and requiring the application of specialized knowledge in the storage and care of the materials and tools handled. Work involves the responsibility for maintenance of supply levels based on need, turnover rate, and supplies on hand. Employees receive general instructions on procedures to be followed, but are responsible for applying proper inventorying methods in the storage and recordkeeping processes. Periodic reviews of the employe’s work are made by a supervisor through inspections of records and stock conditions.

Examples of Work Performed:

Develops and maintains an inventory control system for an authority’s materials, tools, and supplies that are used in housing projects.

Receives, stores, issues, and controls the disposition of materials, tools, and supplies; according to established standards; to trades and maintenance personnel who work on housing projects.

Maintains inventory control records that reflect depleting levels of materials on hand, and posts and balances records according to stock replacements and work orders processed.

Inspects quantity and quality of materials received to insure conformance with prescribed specifications; accepts or rejects goods as appropriate; and forwards invoices to purchasing for payment.

Completes requisitions for new purchases when stock levels are low and forwards to superior for approval.

Recommends the replacement of tools and equipment that are unrepairable and obsolete.

Arranges for repairs or performs minor repairs to malfunctioning tools and equipment.

Develops efficient storage methods and determines the location and arrangement of shelving, bins, and storage space.

Confers with superiors on replacement or damaged goods problems in the determination of the proper course of action.

Maintains neat and sanitary conditions in the supply room area.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of supply room methods and procedures.

Knowledge of requisition procedures.

Knowledge of supply receipt and invoice processing methods.

Knowledge of inventory control systems and procedures.

Ability to determine quality and quantity of goods in relation to prescribed specifications.

Ability to install and maintain stock inventory records.

Sufficient physical strength to lift and move heavy objects.

Experience and Training:

Three years of experience in stores control work, including one year of experience with responsibility for the operation of a small supply room;

or

Any combination of experience and/or training which provided the applicant with the above listed required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
