RESIDENT SELECTION SUPERVISOR (Housing)
Definition:
This is responsible and administrative work in the management of the rental program of a housing authority.
An employee in this class is responsible for supervising and participating in the processing of applications for housing in the various types of housing properties. Work involves ensuring that applicants are given fair and courteous treatment and that placements are made in conformance with approved policies and standards. Work requires close contact with property managers and administrators to insure a more efficient program and to develop proposals and projections on fiscal matters. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel. Work is performed with considerable independence but is reviewed by an administrative superior through conferences, reports, and an evaluation of program results.
Examples of Work Performed:
Supervises and participates in interviewing applicants for public housing.
Reviews verified applications for final disposition; prepares and sends income verification forms to various agencies and places of applicant employment.
Supervises the annual review of income for residents in residence with regard to their income and makes determinations on compliance with the Policy of Admission and Occupancy.
Prepares and submits periodic and special reports as required by regulating agencies of government and the housing authority.
Maintains a master control log showing vacancies, rent loss, unit inspection, ready dates, and lease dates.
Coordinates vacancies, refurbishing, and leasing of units with Property Managers and the Maintenance Superintendent.
Conducts counseling sessions with prospective residents in regard to housing authority rules and regulations.
Responds to all inquiries concerning placement in public housing and attempts to adjust grievances of residents.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities:
Through knowledge of federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and policies governing resident selection for public housing.
Considerable knowledge of public housing programs and problems.
Considerable knowledge of the purposes and practices of public housing and of community facilities and organizations available to assist in the development of sound programs.
Knowledge of advanced arithmetic which involves calculations similar to adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing mixed numbers or complex fractions, conversion of fractions into decimal or percent form, and the use of variable formulas that are selected on a situation or problem basis.
Ability to assemble, correlate, and appraise facts in order to identify and/or resolve existing or potential problems.
Ability to examine and review files, forms, documents, and records for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to act judiciously in considering complaints, making adjustments, and making decisions on grievances.
Ability to assemble, organize, and present status information from various source materials concerning the operation of complicated office activities.
Ability to compose correspondence of inquiry or explanation relating to a problem, request, or program need by surveying the nature of the item involved and determining the proper course of action to execute the presentation of information.
Ability to perform intermediate arithmetic calculations such as the adding and subtracting of whole numbers and decimals; and multiplying and dividing by two or more digit whole number or decimal multipliers or dividers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, residents, and the general public.

RESIDENT SELECTION SUPERVISOR (Housing)
Experience and Training:
Three (3) years experience in supervising or performing tasks associated with the management of multi-family residential subsidized or affordable housing communities, property owned, or programs administered by a public housing authority or comparable (low-income) property management agency;
OR
One (1) year as an Assistant Property Manager or Assistant Section 8 Coordinator;
OR
Two (2) years as a Management Aide.
