AGING CARE MANAGEMENT SUPERVISOR I

Definition: This is supervisory work in a care management unit in a county Area Agency on Aging program.

An employee in this class supervises a unit of care managers who provide services to an elderly clientele in an assigned county. This employee may supervise the provision of direct services in any one of several programs in a large Area Agency on Aging; or the provision of direct and contracted services in a moderately sized Area Agency on Aging. An employee in this class is not expected to supervise employees involved in the protective services program. An assignment including a combination of directly provided services and contracted services is appropriate. Supervision is received from a higher level supervisor or a program administrator through an evaluation of written reports and day to day conferences and discussions.

Examples of Work: Supervises a care management unit in an Area Agency on Aging.

Trains and supervises beginning level and lower level Care Managers in the rules, regulations and procedures of aging programs.

Reviews and analyzes case records for completeness and adherence to establish standards.

Evaluates staff performance and makes recommendations regarding personnel actions.

Assigns and reviews cases.

Prepares reports and correspondence, and maintains necessary records.

Performs related work as required.

Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of social casework principles and methods.

Knowledge of current social, economic, and health problems and community resources as related to older adults.

Knowledge of individual and group behavior and ways of working effectively with older adults who have social, economic, emotional, and/or health problems.

Knowledge of the basic principles and methods of program interpretation and community organization.

Skill in the development of plans to address the needs of older adults.

Ability to work effectively with older adults and aid them to grow in the constructive use of their potential in adjusting to their specific problems.

Ability to evaluate work of subordinates and to provide technical assistance and guidance.

Ability to orient and instruct subordinates on procedures, techniques, laws and regulations.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other members of the staff, outside agencies and institutions, and the general public.

Ability to clearly express ideas orally and in writing.

Minimum Experience and Training: Three years of experience in public or private social work and a Bachelor's Degree; or any equivalent combination of experience and training including successful completion of 12 semester hours of college level courses in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, or other related social sciences.
