PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES ASSOCIATE 2
Definition: This is professional work in the field of psychological services.
Employees in this class perform professional work in the fields of direct services, research or training in a psychological services program. Work involves the application of principles, methodology and technical skills within special areas, such as vocational counseling and guidance, personnel measurement and evaluation, research or clinical psychology. Work requires initiative and independent judgment and is performed under the general supervision of a professional supervisor. Work is subject to review by the administrative and professional staff and is evaluated for effectiveness of methodology, technique and the achievement of treatment and rehabilitation goals.
Examples of Work: Selects, in consultation with a supervisor, appropriate tests to measure intellectual capacities, personality, special aptitudes and achievement levels; develops interpretive conclusions to determine appropriate classifications and rehabilitation goals.
Conducts research studies designed to maximize the effectiveness of a direct services program at mental health or rehabilitation facilities or in other psychological services programs.
Interviews clients and patients at institutions for individuals with mental disabilities and rehabilitation and diagnostic centers to determine psychological case classifications.
Selects and uses psychological techniques designed to modify behavior.
Administers, scores and interprets a wide range of psychological tests.
Discusses test and interview findings, interpretations and recommendations with a supervisor.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles of psychology and related behavioral sciences.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of administering, scoring and interpreting standard psychological tests.
Knowledge of the application of psychology to individual and group behavior.
Knowledge of mental disabilities, their treatment and their social implications.
Knowledge of psychological techniques employed in the modification of human behavior.
Knowledge of current psychological theories and practices.
Knowledge of the principles and methods of statistical research and experimental design applied to the field of psychology.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Minimum Experience and Training: One year of experience as a Psychological Services Associate 1 or one year of professional experience in psychological services work; and a master’s degree in psychology or a closely related field.
