PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES ASSOCIATE SUPERVISOR

Definition:  This is professional supervisory work in the field of psychological services.

Employees in this class supervise a small group of psychological services associates in the fields of direct services, research, or training in a psychological services program. Work requires initiative and independent judgment and is performed under the general supervision of a professional or administrative superior, and is reviewed for scope, methodology, techniques and effectiveness in achieving treatment and rehabilitation goals.

Examples of Work:  Supervises the administration, scoring and interpretation of standard psychological tests designed to measure and evaluate intellectual capacities, personality structure, achievement levels and aptitudes and interests.

Assigns and reviews the work of subordinates in vocational counseling and guidance, personnel measurement and evaluation, research and other clinical activities.

Supervises research surveys in psychological services programs designed to maximize the effectiveness of a direct services program.

Conducts staff meetings to discuss and evaluate the adjustment of patients or clients and proposed rehabilitation plans.

Administers, interprets and makes recommendations based on the application of a wide range of psychological tests.

Performs individual counseling and group psychotherapy under the direction of a professional superior.

Reviews technical aspects of a psychological services program to insure that appropriate methodology and principles are used.

Performs related work as required.

Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities:  Knowledge of the principles and techniques of administering, scoring and interpreting standard psychological tests.

Knowledge of the basic principles of psychology and related behavioral sciences.

Knowledge of the application of psychology to individual and group behavior.

Knowledge of mental diseases, their treatment and their social implications in relation to individuals and the environment.

Knowledge of psychological techniques employed in the modification of human behavior.

Knowledge of current psychological theories and practices.

Knowledge of the principles and methods of statistical research and experimental design applied to the field of psychology.

Ability to supervise professional staff in implementing a psychological services program.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Minimum Experience and Training:  Two years of experience as a Psychological Services Associate 2 or three years of professional experience in psychological services work; and a master’s degree in psychology or a closely related field.
