RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM TRAINEE L0785
Definition:
This is a beginning level work of a training nature in working with program clients in a county Human Services Residential Program.
An employee in this class participates in a training program designed to develop basic knowledges, skills, abilities, and attitudes necessary in assisting program clients to live and function as independently as possible in the community. As knowledges and skills are acquired through training, further developmental assignments are given for the application of skills and abilities to an actual work situation. Training and work assignments are performed under the close supervision of a Residential Program Director or Residential Program Supervisor who reviews work in progress and upon completion for effectiveness and adherence to program policies and procedures.
Examples of Work Performed:
Participates in a training program designed to develop the knowledges, skills, abilities, and attitudes necessary to assist program clients to live and function as independently as possible in the community.
Assists in developing and implementing individual service plans for program clients to help them learn self-care skills such as cooking, grooming, toilet training, money management, and housekeeping.
Assists program clients in developing social skills such as taking part in conversations, participating in home activities and practicing good manners in dealing with people.
Assists with or conducts, under close supervision, recreational and social activities.
Instructs program clients in the availability and use of community resources and facilities.
Assists in maintaining the residential unit in good condition and in accordance with applicable fire and safety rules and regulations.
Attends staff meetings and conferences as assigned.
Learns to maintain necessary administrative records and reports.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of pertinent community resources and facilities.
Ability to develop and maintain a sympathetic and under-standing attitude when working with program clients.
Ability to learn and apply simple principles and methods of rehabilitation for the program clients.
Ability to read and write.
Ability to learn to keep and maintain simple records.
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to work with people.
