RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM SUPERVISOR L0787
Definition:
This is a supervisory work in a county Human Services Residential Program.
An employee in this class serves as an assistant to a Residential Program Director 2 or 3 in the supervision of Residential Program Workers and Trainees in a county Human Services Residential Program who are engaged in assisting program clients to live and function as independently as possible in the community. Work involves training, assigning, monitoring and evaluating the work of the Residential Program Workers and Residential Program Trainees; assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of individual service plans; counseling program clients on routine problems; insuring that the residential units are maintained and operated in a safe, secure and lawful manner; and reporting any operational, staff or client problems to the Director. Work is performed in conformance with established policies and procedures and under the supervision of a Residential Program Director 2 or 3 who reviews the work to determine quality and achievement of established objectives through conferences, reports, and observations.

Serves as an assistant to a Residential Program Director 2 or 3 in the supervision of Residential Program Workers and Residential Program Trainees in a county Human Services Residential Program who
are engaged in assisting program clients to live and function as independently as possible in the community.
Trains, assigns, monitors and evaluates the work of residential program staff.
Assists in developing, implementing and monitoring individual service plans designed to improve the social and self-care skills of program clients.
Counsels program clients to help them more effectively deal with matters such as personal problems, personal values, and job responsibilities.
Ensures that the residential unit is maintained and operated in a safe, secure and lawful manner.
Insures the provision of specialized services such as speech therapy, psychotherapy, medical and dental care to meet individual client's needs.
Maintains effective working relationships with personnel from state and local agencies and families to coordinate the delivery of services to individuals in the program.
Reports any operational, staff, or resident problems to the Residential Program Director.
Receives and accounts for client fees.
Conducts staff meetings, case conferences and in-service training programs.
Prepares various statistical and status reports as directed by the Residential Program Director.
Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and methods of rehabilitation for the program clients.
Knowledge of behavior management, program planning and normalization principles and practices for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Knowledge of health measure such as basic first aid, CPR, fire safety, and personal safety measures.
Knowledge of generic and specialized community resources, facilities and services available to individuals with intellectual disabilities including treatment service programs and objectives of such agencies as base service units, Community Mental Health Centers, Children & Youth Agencies, Area Agencies on Aging, and other specialized county human services programs.
Knowledge of the organization and management of group living units for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Knowledge of the basic principles and aims of counseling.
Knowledge of menu planning and nutrition, meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping practices, and grocery shopping.
Knowledge of basic principles and methods of staff supervision.
Knowledge of basic individual and household budgeting and use of checking and savings accounts.
Ability to plan, organize, train, assign, monitor, and evaluate the work of staff.
Ability to apply basic first aid, safety, and health measures.
Ability to analyze situations and formulate an effective course of action.
Ability to secure the confidence of and develop and maintain an empathetic understanding of intellectually disabled residents.
Ability to organize and prioritize various work assignments.
Ability to develop and implement individual goal plans and program activities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county and state officials, clients and their families, and the general public.
Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting laws, rules, and policies governing county Human Services Residential Programs.
Ability to express ideas clearly and
concisely, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Experience and Training:
One year of experience as a Residential Program Worker;
or
Two years of direct services experience in a human services agency, one of which must have involved working with individuals with intellectual disabilities;
or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
