COUNTY SOCIAL WORK TRAINING SPECIALIST L0813
Definition:
This is professional technical staff work in the field of social work training and staff development for employees in county mental health/intellectual disability, children and youth and human service agencies.
Employees in this class are responsible for developing, conducting, evaluating and coordinating staff development programs for social service staff in county mental health/intellectual disability, children and youth and human service agencies. Work involves the analysis and determination of training needs, selection of appropriate resources, design of training materials and programs, conduct of training programs and the provision of advice and consultation to supervisory and administrative staff. Employees are expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment within the framework of county and state policies and objectives. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level training specialist or administrative superior and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and results attained.
Examples of Work:
Develops, conducts, evaluates and coordinates staff development programs for social service staff in county mental health/intellectual disability, children and youth and/or human service agencies.
Conducts structured staff development programs in the principles, practices, methods and techniques of social work, including case management.
Researches, evaluates and selects materials to be used in course development; prepares outlines, syllabuses, training guides, visual aids, and course evaluation instruments.
Analyzes and determines training requirements.
Provides advice and consultation to program administrators and supervisors regarding performance problems, training needs, follow-up content and methods to be used in developing and maintaining quality and effective social services.
Develops or assists in developing training materials and guides for the use of other staff.
Plans, assists and evaluates staff development programs to be conducted by other county or agency staff.
Assists with the preparation of the Annual Training Plan, quarterly training and statistical reports and other studies, reports and correspondence as required.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work, social programs, and services policies and procedures, including case management.
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of staff development, including curriculum assessment and development.
Knowledge of current literature, techniques and trends in the field of social services including case management.
Ability to select or adapt materials to meet training needs.
Ability to conduct and evaluate training courses.
Ability to instruct and lead group discussions.
Ability to prepare lesson plans, audio-visual aids and other instructional material.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, county and state officials, and other employees.
Ability to analyze and review training contract proposals and monitor implementation and results of contractual training.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective training atmosphere, obtain cooperation and promote enthusiasm among training participants.
Ability to express ideas, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Experience and Training:
Two years of professional experience in public or private social work, including or supplemented by one year of experience in staff development or supervision involving the development, coordination or evaluation of training programs; and a bachelor's degree;
or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
