COUNTY SOCIAL WORK TRAINING SUPERVISOR                                             L0814

Definition:

This is professional and supervisory work in the field of social work training and staff development for employees in county mental health/intellectual disability, children and youth and human service agencies.

Employees in this class supervise County Social Work Training Specialists responsible for the development, conduct, evaluation and coordination of staff development programs for social service staff in county mental health/intellectual disability, children and youth and human service agencies. Work involves planning, developing, conducting, monitoring and coordinating staff development programs; analyzing and determining training needs, and reviewing, monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness. work also includes developing policies, practices, procedures and methods, and the coordination of staff development activities with county and state goals and objectives. Work also involves providing advisory and consultative services to administrative and supervisory staff regarding training needs and program effectiveness. Supervision is exercised over a staff of professional and clerical employees. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports and results of program effectiveness.

Examples of Work:

Plans, directs and supervises the development, conduct, evaluation and coordination of staff development programs for social service staff in county mental health/intellectual disability, children and youth and/or human service agencies.

Supervises or conducts structured staff development programs in the principles, practices, methods and techniques of social work, including case management.

Conducts or supervises the research, evaluation and selection of course materials.

Participates in the development of policies, practices, procedures and methods relating to the agency's staff development program.

Reviews, monitors and evaluates training and program effectiveness.

Meets with agency, county and state officials regarding staff development programs.

Provides advice and consultation to administrative and supervisory staff regarding training needs, program effectiveness and agency goals and objectives.

Prepares or assists in the preparation of the Annual Training Plan and other reports and correspondence as required.

Supervises a staff of professional and clerical employees involved in the development and presentation of staff development programs.

Prepares employee performance evaluation reports, initiates corrective disciplinary actions, and participates in the appointment of staff.

Performs related work as required.

Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work, social programs and services, including case management.

Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of staff development, including curriculum assessment and development.

Knowledge of current literature, techniques and trends in the field of social work.

Ability to select or adapt materials to meet training needs.

Ability to prepare contracts and monitor delivery of product conformance with contract specifications.

Ability to supervise a subordinate staff engaged in staff development training.

Ability to prepare budgets to project the use of fiscal resources to address training needs, goals and objectives.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, county and state officials, administrators and supervisors of other regional county programs, and other employees.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective training atmosphere, obtain cooperation, and promote enthusiasm among training participants.

Ability to express ideas both orally and in writing.

Minimum Experience and Training:

One year as a County Social Work Training Specialist;

or

Three years of professional experience in public or private social work, including or supplemented by two years of experience in staff development or supervision involving the development, coordination or evaluation of training programs; and a bachelor's degree;

or

Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
