TRANSPORTATION MANAGER 2
Definition:
This is managerial work directing a medium size county government transportation program. An employee in this class is responsible for the supervision of lower level employees in a local county government transportation program or performs comparable non-supervisory functions in monitoring transportation contracts. Work involves assuming the responsibility for the ongoing administrative duties necessary to operate the transportation program. Work in this class is distinguished from that of higher level classes by the size of the program. Work is performed independently under general direction of an administrative supervisor and is reviewed for conformance to overall department policies.
Examples of Work:
Supervises employees in the program by planning and assigning work as well as preparing performance
evaluations and approving/disapproving leave requests.
Prepares daily schedules for transportation.
Serves as back-up driver in absence of regular drivers when necessary.
Develops and implements policies and procedures for the transportation program.
Trains new employees.
Maintains records of mileage and other required data.
Arranges for automotive repairs and maintenance.
Monitors transportation contracts by maintaining and updating data on budget, staffing and clients served.
Attends meetings, seminars and training programs as appropriate.
Performs related duties as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the geographical area served.
Knowledge of traffic laws of the state.
Knowledge of the principles of operation of automotive equipment sufficient to detect defective operation.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others.
Ability to develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures.
Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting agency policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employes, clients and the public.
Ability to operate an automobile safely and skillfully.
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as a Transportation Manager 1;
or
Two years of experience in a human service transportation program which involved transporting meals, clients or scheduling of transportation services;
or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. No previous suspension of driver's license within the last three years.
