VOLUNTEER RESOURCES COORDINATOR TRAINEE
Definition:
This is beginning level administrative work in the field of volunteer resources administration.
An employee in this class performs a variety of beginning level duties in the administration of volunteer resources. Employees are selected on the basis of their aptitude for and interest in volunteer resources administration and participate in a training program approved by the Department of Public Welfare which is designed to develop competence and ability in performing volunteer resources administration. Initially, assignments are limited in scope and difficulty and performed under close supervision. As knowledges and skills are acquired, the variety and difficulty of assignments increase and more latitude is provided for judgment and decision-making. Upon successful completion of one year of satisfactory training and service as a Volunteer Resources Coordinator Trainee, the employee is normally promoted to the Volunteer Resources Coordinator 1 class. Work is assigned, in detail, by a higher level Volunteer Resources Coordinator who provides continuing guidance and assistance and reviews work for effective completion of assignments.
Examples of Work:
Participates in a formal and on-the-job training program designed to develop professional proficiency in volunteer resources administration.
Learns to and assists in interpreting to institution and agency department heads the areas in which the use of volunteer services will contribute to the program.
Learns to and assists in evaluation of institutional and agency needs for different types of volunteer resources which can be obtained through the community.
Assists in the development and implementation of recruitment plans in the community through group contacts, communication media and individual contacts.
Assists departments in the preparation of volunteer service guides.
Assists department heads with arrangements and plans for the orientation of volunteers; assigns volunteers on the basis of abilities related to departmental needs.
Learns to and assists in developing and maintaining sufficient community contacts to meet institution and agency needs for volunteer resources and to improve community understanding of the institution.
Maintains necessary records, reports, schedules and other administrative aids.
Maintains a system for the receipt, acknowledgment and distribution of donations.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the structure and functions of community organizations.
Knowledge of individual and group behavior.
Ability to learn the concepts, principles and practices involved in the administration of volunteer resources.
Ability to secure and analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with institution and agency officials, associates, the community and the general public.
Ability to present ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
Minimum Experience and Training:
A bachelor’s degree;
or
Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills and abilities.
Commonwealth Equivalent PSG ST05
