VOLUNTEER RESOURCES COORDINATOR 1

Definition:

This is administrative work in the field of volunteer resources administration.

An employee in this class serves as an assistant to a higher level Volunteer Resources Coordinator in the administration of volunteer resources at a county agency. Work involves assisting in interpreting the concepts and potentials of volunteer resources to agency or department heads and other staff personnel, identifying their needs for volunteer resources, and in utilizing and implementing these resources. Important aspects of this work are developing a community understanding of the needs of the agency and an atmosphere conducive to increasing the cooperation between the community and the agency. Supervision may be exercised over a small clerical staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level Volunteer Resources Coordinator and reviewed for effectiveness of results.

Examples of Work:

Assists in planning, organizing, and coordinating the development of volunteer resources within a county agency.

Assists in interpreting, to agency or department heads and to staff personnel, the concepts and potentials for utilization of volunteer resources, and works with community leaders in relating the needs of the agency to available or potential resources within the community.

Participates in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting volunteer applicants; plans and coordinates orientation and placement on the basis of their abilities and interests related to substantive program requirements; and works with staff personnel supervising volunteers in relation to matters of volunteer work performance, transfer, resignation, and forms of recognition for service.

Assists in establishing and maintaining continuous working relationships with community leaders for the purpose of education and improved understanding of the agency program and planning and utilization of community resources both during and after agency services have been provided.

Assists in coordinating with local news media appropriate coverage of significant volunteer activities.

Participates in agency and community meetings to interpret, promote, and provide professional guidance in planning for utilization of volunteer resources.

Maintains necessary records, reports, schedules, and other administrative aids.

Performs related work as required.

Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the effective functional, organization and administrative structuring of volunteer resources.

Knowledge of the structure and functions of community organizations and social institutions and their existing or potential resources.

Knowledge of individual and group behavior.

Knowledge of the general function and structure of agencies and organizations which utilize volunteer resources as an integral part of their programs.

Knowledge of the media, methods, and techniques which may be used to relate the needs of an agency to resources within a community.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel management which includes recruitment, selection, placement, training, and retention of volunteers.

Ability to provide effective leadership to and establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency officials, staff personnel, community leaders and the general public.

Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the utilization of volunteer resources as an integral part of an agency's substantive program.

Ability to present ideas accurately and effectively, orally and in writing.

Minimum Experience and Training:

One year of experience as a Volunteer Resources Coordinator Trainee, or two years of experience in volunteer resources administration; and a bachelor's degree;

or

Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
