Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 15% Attends field "preproduction" meetings on Pennsylvania State Police Station relocations. Explains the requirements of the Radio and Information Services Division to the Officer-In-Charge, Troop Communications Specialist and contractor. This includes telephone and radio requirements. 10% Prepares detailed CAD drawings and specifications for radio communications equipment and communications rooms. Inspects construction sites involving new Stations, specifically the communications rooms and associated equipment. 10% Evaluates the quality of radio repairs/services performed by the communications contractor or their agents. 10% Receives and responds to various questions and inquiries from the Troop Communications Specialist and others dealt with by this section. Serves as the liaison between Troop Communications Specialist and the Division regarding requests for services equipment, assistance in unique situations, etc. Designs and constructs special electronic devices for use in the field and other circuits and systems for use by the State Police. 10% Supports Pennsylvania State Police operations at emergency incidents and pre-planned events; drives and deploys Mobile Command Post to critical incident locations; transports and sets up Portable and Mobile radio equipment as required to support Command Posts and/or Joint Operations Centers during operational events; provides radio communications support to personnel responding to such events as required. 10% Provides training to field personnel on use and maintenance of radio equipment used by PSP 5% Be available to provide after-hours support of the VHF and 800 MHz for the Pennsylvania State Police radio system operations. This includes direct support and assisting subordinates in resolution of urgent Help Desk calls. 5% Receives official telephone messages or calls of problems from field personnel; identifies the nature of the problem, explains the appropriate course of action and/or contacts the appropriate service provider to resolve the problem or implement repair procedures. 5% Inspects radio sites, equipment, and installation practices in the field to evaluate the effectiveness of such equipment, and to insure that it meets the specifications of the communications contract. 5% Studies and prepares data for proposed modification and design changes to the Pennsylvania State Police radio communications system. Plans and develops various communications subsystems. 5% Prepares reports on radio equipment and systems evaluation. Writes technical specifications for material and equipment procurement. 5% Surplus Equipment Custodian – Prepares all required reports and staging of surplus equipment for the Division, also ensures disposition instructions are followed. 5% Performs other related duties as required. |

Work is reviewed by my immediate supervisor to see that the initial objectives have been reached and any problem areas that do exist are analyzed and corrected as effciently as possible. The incumbent in this position is authorized to make decisions regarding tasks assigned. The incumbent will check with superiors prior to making any decisions that may affect business policy and budgets. The incumbent in this position is authorized to make technical and administrative decisions for tasks assisnged, consistent with Division, Department, and Commonwealth policies. |
