Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The Dentist at Selinsgrove Center provides comprehensive dental services to all individuals residing at the Center under the supervision of the Clinical Services Director. Services include examination, diagnosis, treatment, and completion of dental care for individuals across all residential communities. Dental care is delivered in accordance with the principles and standards of preventive and restorative dentistry. All services are provided in compliance with applicable federal, state, and facility licensing requirements. The Dentist ensures that necessary dental care is delivered either onsite at the Center, in a local hospital operating room when indicated, or through referral to qualified dental specialists in external settings. As a member of the Interdisciplinary Team, the Dentist contributes professional input to each individual’s annual Individual Support Plan (ISP) to support comprehensive, person-centered care. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. The Dentist will provide supervision and direction to Dental Assistant. Specific duties include: 1) Instructing individuals in proper methods of daily care for good oral hygiene. 2) Provides or oversees dental examination, prophylaxis, and treatment to all individuals who reside at Selinsgrove Center. Examines each individual at least once a year for infections and/or diseases of teeth and gums and completion of assessment for periodontal disease. 3) Prescribes treatment for infections and/or diseases of teeth and gums and prescribes follow-up mouth care to individuals in the living units. 4) Takes dental x-rays, prepares and fills cavities, extracts teeth and roots. 5) Performs minor oral surgery when indicated. 6) Administers local anesthesia when required. 7) Fits, adjusts and finishes artificial dentures and other corrective/prosthetic devices. 8) Participates and provides consultation services related to dental or oral diseases and malformations as well as recommends plans to treat and correct. 9) Documents in individual records according to Selinsgrove Center policy/procedure and will, under the direction of the Clinical Services Director review, revise and update as necessary Selinsgrove Center policies/procedures relating to dental area. 10) Maintains accurate inventory of supplies and equipment in the Dental area and orders, as necessary, under the guidance of the Clinical Services Director. 11) Provides in-service training to professional/non-professional staff regarding dental care. 12) Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other Center staff. 13) Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with community providers of specialized dental services. 14) Shares information with other members of the medical team, related to dental health issues. 15) Works with the interdisciplinary team to assure that supports are provided to allow dental procedures to be accomplished safely, while also assuring that due process for rights limitations occurs. 16) Serves as a member of Facility wide committees and initiatives, as requested by Dentist or Clinical Services Director. 17) Provides a written Annual Dental Summary for each individual as part of the ISP process. 18) Monitors and oversees contracts related to dental services at the Facility, including but not limited to contracts with oral surgeons, other dental professionals, dental equipment maintenance, and dental laboratory services. |

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. Work is performed with a high degree of independence under the general supervision of the Clinical Services Director. Performance is evaluated based on established performance objectives and measurable outcome factors. A monthly work report is submitted to and reviewed by the Clinical Services Director. The Dentist exercises independent clinical judgment in matters relating to dental practice, patient scheduling, and the administrative management of the dental department. Consultation with the Clinical Services Director and attending physicians occurs as clinically indicated to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care. The Clinical Services Director reviews schedules, monitors service delivery, and evaluates overall work performance. Professional development is supported and encouraged through participation in continuing education and relevant training programs. |
