Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Performs a range of skilled duties relative to the application of paint, wallpaper, or vinyl coverings to a variety of surfaces including walls, partitions and all types of office furniture, within the Capitol Complex, Annex Complex and outlying facilities.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Performs the full range of journeyman level painting duties to include estimating material requirements and supplies.

Prepares surfaces to be painted by removing old paint by use of heat guns, electric sanders, sandpaper, scrapers, or chemical paint solvents.

Makes minor repairs to surfaces to be painted by use of spackle, plaster, or other materials.

Applies a wide assortment of paint to interiors and exteriors of buildings and offices covering wooden, masonry and metal surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray guns.

Mixes oil and universal colors to arrive at specially desired blends, tone or coloring. Maintains file of recipes of special mixes for future reference.

Covers walls with wallpaper or viny l covering.

Removes glazing compound and re-glazes windows.

Caulks windows, doorframes, etc.

Paints and touchups a variety of office furniture, both metal and wooden.

Puts together and erects scaffolding, as well as ladders.

Responsible for the proper care of tools and equipment; cleans brushes and spray guns and maintains a clean and orderly work area.

May function as a lead worker over helpers assisting in various phases of work by assigning work, providing assistance, and reviewing the work for adherence to standards.

Shovels and removes snow and ice from entrances, walkways, steps, etc. Spreads rock salt, calcium, sand or other deicing agents, and operates spreaders and snow blowers.

Drives to various locations throughout the Capitol Complex, Annex Complex and outlaying buildings.

Performs other related duties as required.

Selects the proper tools, equipment, and supplies, and decides the appropriate course of action required for each assignment always being aware of job hazards & safety measures. Requests and receives guidance from the supervisor on unusual situations.
