Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The purpose of this position is to provide skilled maintenance support for the facilities on and off site of the Farm Show Complex. This position is to ensure safe and efficient operation during year-round vendor-controlled events and routine required facility maintenance.

Description of Duties:

Lead Work
Lead maintenance projects with the assistance of tradesman helpers and laborers utilizing power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, and motorized equipment.

Skilled Trades
Performs skilled maintenance under the supervision of Electricians, Carpenters, Plumbers, Mason, Utility Plant Operators, Welders, and Refrigeration/HVAC Mechanics.

Provide general housekeeping in the Weld Shop and Maintenance Shop and maintain log of equipment usage.

Perform repairs to water and gas lines, and overhead/pedestrian doors and gates.

Provide written report of maintenance activities to the Building Services Supervisor.

Use various power hand tools and manual tools to complete work including wood lathe, sanders, jointer, power saw, planer, hand or electric saws, grinders, drill press, drill motors, routers, hammers, ratchets, impact wrenches, pipe threading equipment, clamps, vices, battery chargers, drain cleaning machinery, masonry tools and related power and hand tools.

Repairs and maintains domestic water lines, drain lines, sewer lines and all-natural gas and/or bottled gas lines and auxiliary equipment such as valves and finalizes all hook-ups/disconnects.

Installs electrical fixtures, plumbing fixtures, repairs or replaces windows; welds and brazes metals using arc and acetylene welders; works with concrete, builds forms; assists with roof repairs, gutters and downspouts; repairs and or fabricates floor drains as needed.

Occasionally assist with facility grounds and sidewalks by removing snow and debris.

Repairs or replace doors, door frames, hinges, locks and door hardware throughout the complex as needed.

Assists with painting projects around the facility and complex.


Facilities Equipment Fleet
Assists the Building Services Supervisor with the automotive fleet and the equipment fleet to include conducting preventative maintenance, vehicle inspections, minor and major vehicle repair and servicing in accordance with the technical manuals. Reports on fleet status.

Operates motorized equipment safely to install, repair, maintain, clean and recondition Farm Show facilities.

Assists the Building Services Supervisor as a point of contact for vehicle repairs requiring services to be done by or coordinated through the Department of General Services (DGS) vehicle division.

Monitors and schedules motor vehicle inspection services for each vehicle requiring such services.

Repairs on multiple types of equipment and trucks for the proper operation of the Farm Show events.

Creates and maintains service and maintenance logs/records on all equipment as part of an overall preventive maintenance program.

Completes engine tune-ups and equipment engine repair consistent with technical capabilities and knowledge of such procedures while observing all safety guidelines.

Completes required preventive maintenance tasks on engines, motors and associated maintenance points as per manufacturers recommendations on all equipment and devices requiring such services.

Repairs and installs tubeless tires onto rims, patches and installs inner tubes, installs tire/rim combinations onto all wheeled equipment.

Performs other related duties as required

Adheres to all PA Department of Agriculture and PA Farm Show Complex and Expo Center policies and procedures.

Work assignments are generated by the Farm Show Complex Management Team. A close working relationship between all parties and departments is necessary for successful function of our Bureau. Work various shift assignments within a 24/7 schedule.

Emergency decisions not previously discussed with Building Maintenance Manager shall be discussed as soon as possible.
