Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Operates the lime feed system to add sufficient slurry to efficiently neutralize the influent water and maintain the proper pH and alkalinity of the effluent water. Collects and analyzes water samples to assure efficient operation of the treatment process and record results on the daily report. Repairs and maintains motors, mixers and pumps and other related equipment involved in processing of acid mine drainage. Operates pumps to maintain proper sludge blanket depths in the clarifiers and sludge solids in the thickener. Operates the belt filter press to dewater acid mine drainage sludge recovered in the treatment process for final disposal at the permitted site. Operates stand-by equipment including alternate lime feed pump and emergency generator during power outages and high flow events to maintain efficient operation of the plant. Obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License within one year of appointment to operate dump truck to haul sludge and plant equipment. Reads, records, and maintains recorders and other various monitoring equipment as assigned. Assists the Mine Drainage Treatment Plant Supervisor in the repair of plant process equipment, facilities, or support equipment. Climbs lime silo to check and perform maintenance of Smart Bob system. Performs cleaning duties of buildings, structures, tanks, equipment, and grounds including mowing. Assists in performing maintenance work on structures and grounds maintained under the Rausch Creek Treatment Plant. Performs occasional maintenance and work on structures and grounds maintained under the Schuylkill River Project facilities. Collects water samples, conducts measurements, and record findings as assigned. Assists in collection of weekly data and maintenance at mine pools. Operates Commonwealth-owned vehicles to collect water samples from off-site locations. Maintains the buildings to ensure work areas, labs, office areas and restrooms are organized, tidy and clean, as well as the grounds and related areas under the jurisdiction of the Rausch Creek Treatment Plant. Promotes the Department's mission. Inputs appropriate data in a prescribed format to meet data quality standards set forth by guidance, training, and policy across all of DEP’s electronic data systems; to include ensuring accuracy and completeness of entries, and where available, the use of system specific tools to ensure duplicative entries and data quality issues are minimized.
