Position Purpose:

The Residential Services Worker (RSW) is responsible and accountable for designing, developing, implementing, evaluating and conducting residential programmatic services and activities for assigned individuals in a Unit/Living Area. The employee in this position provides direction and training to Residential Services Aides (RSA’s) in the delivery of residential training programs/services specified in each individual’s Individual Support Plan (ISP).

Description of Duties:

Participates in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings by providing input regarding Assessments or services provided, assisting in identifying priorities, recommending methodology and integrative approaches, and responding to input of other team members in order to ensure a program of continuous active treatment is established for each individual.
Implements residential components of the ISP for assigned individuals by completing or ensuring completion of Assessments and Interdisciplinary Reports, developing Training Plans and/or Support Procedures, conducting services, training Residential Services Aide (RSA) staff, and monitoring services delivered in order to maximize delivery of active treatment.
Assists the Incident Management Point Person in determining the incident cause and assists in recommending strategies that lead to the prevention of incidents including the monitoring and implementation of preventive strategies and Center wide initiatives in assigned living areas.
Directs RSA staff by implementing established management/supervisory directives, procedures and practices; coordinating completion of day-to-day work assignments; observing work in progress; conducting living area discussions; and reviewing work performance strengths and deficits with the supervisory staff in order to maximize utilization and productivity of assigned staff.
Ensures the maintenance of each individual’s electronic chart by reviewing RSA staff documentation for compliance with records, policy/procedures, and advising supervisory staff of findings in order to reinforce or correct compliance with applicable standards and policies.
Guides/directs RSA staff in developing skills necessary to conduct residential training plans and supports by assisting in identifying training needs, monitoring and guiding work performance and reviewing reports in order to ensure work performance meets standards.
Requests supplies and equipment to fully implement the goals and programs established by the IDT to maximize delivery of active treatment and personal growth.
Participates in the center’s QI initiatives by knowing and understanding the established goals and objectives; provides requested information/data relative to the achievement of the goals and objectives and participates in the identification of new center QI initiatives.
Participates and engages in supporting building and center-wide events by escorting individuals to events, keeping them actively engaged, and help promote a therapeutic environment.
Participates in cross-shift meetings to ensure effective communication between staff.
Represents the facility and the administration by serving as a role model employee, complying with facility policies, advocating persons with disabilities, and interacting appropriately with the staff and the public in order to maintain effective and efficient facility operations.
Completes related duties and assignments by interacting regularly with unit and facility staff and assisting in times of need in order to ensure consistent unit operations and achieve unit and division/facility goals.

Decision Making:

Supervision is provided through written and verbal directions, consultation and guidance on programming matters, and discussion and direction with policy and procedures. Work is reviewed by written and verbal reports and observation of work in progress.
Under the supervision of the RSAS, the RSAs receive direction from the RSW on the shift/wing for completion of day-to-day residential care and services as identified in the Individual Support Plans and established work routines.
