Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position provides staff support in the coordination and execution of all surveys required by the Bureaus of State Parks and Forestry, including associated tasks essential to survey completion. This position is responsible for maintaining work records, overseeing the survey crew, and ensuring inventory control and equipment maintenance. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Works with Surveyor 2 or Section Chief to prioritize and evaluate survey projects to ensure their completion in the most appropriate manner. Meets with personnel in central office, park superintendents, district foresters, and/or representatives of other bureaus to determine specific parameters of each survey and the most appropriate course of action to follow to accomplish stated goals. Performs research and gathers evidence necessary for the completion of boundary surveys: most typically at county courthouses for deeds, maps, and other pertinent data; and when necessary, contacts other sources to obtain pertinent information (e.g. Pennsylvania State Archives, Department of Transportation, private landowners, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, other surveyors) Provides legal staff with Departmental records related to boundary. Serves as the survey party chief and field supervisor; trains Park and Forestry personnel and others in the duties of rodman or crew member to ensure proper task performance. Marks and stakes boundaries. Serves as an expert witness in boundary and title land litigation proceedings. Provides the public with information relevant to department land records, as pertains to title and boundary matters. Transmits all Pennsylvania Right-to-Know requests to the appropriate coordinator. Travels to state parks and state forests, including overnight travel required as necessary. |
