Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Assists in the manufacture of traffic signs under the general supervision of a Lead Sign Technician, Artist Illustrator I, Sign Technician Supervisor, or Sign Shop Manager. Assists with the set up and operation of automatic or manual silk screening equipment, automatic squeeze roller covering machine, base coat paint machine, automatic punch, die cutting machine, corner machines and sheet metal shears. Checks orders for accuracy, assists in mixing and applying paint through the silk screen process, and cleans and maintains equipment used to silk screen and dry highway signs. Assists with line production type sign making on an automated or manual silk screen or vacuum equipment. Lays out and applies cut out letters and figures on sign blanks from detailed prints showing size, location, and message to be applied. Lays out and applies letters, numbers, and arrows on directional signs from orders showing message to be applied. Assists in setting up, adjusting, operating, cleaning, and maintaining equipment used to dry, bake, silk screen, transport and finish traffic signs. Assists in Sign Shop inventory and helps to keep inventory organized. Assists in pulling sign orders for counties and the loading and unloading of trucks. Operate fork lift trucks. Performs other related duties as required. Safety: 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Evaluate contractor/consultant operations: • Immediately stop unsafe actions • Engage in safety dialogue with contractor/consultant leadership, as appropriate 6. Promote a culture that emphasizes safety as a core value: • Immediately stop any unsafe actions. • Incorporate safety into discussions, deliberations, and decisions. • Inspire other employees to be a model for safety. • Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs. • Acknowledge extraordinary safety achievements. • Learn and improve through After Action Reviews, as appropriate Department Green Plan Policy: Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with the Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review. Succession Planning: Rank and File Employees Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with your supervisor. Participate in knowledge transfer by identifying key aspects of your job and sharing program/technical knowledge with other employees. Managers/Supervisors Actively engage in succession planning by assessing potential vacancies; identifying current and future critical needs and competencies; and assessing the interest, availability, and readiness of current staff and candidate pools. Work with employees to complete and maintain a Career Development Plan. Engage employees and recognize employees and their accomplishments. Establish a mechanism to identify, capture, and share program/technical knowledge among staff.
