Position Purpose:

Supervise a crew of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and trade positions. Directing all facility maintenance and construction activities at Cook Forest/Clear Creek State Park Complex.

Serves as the Park Complex Safety & Right to Know Officer.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Supervise a crew of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and trade positions engaged in the construction and maintenance of facilities and in the operation, maintenance and repair of equipment at Cook Forest State Park Complex. Instruct personnel on the work to be performed; proper work methods and techniques for performing the work; and interpret work assignments, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing maintenance and construction activities. Obtain bids and write specifications to purchase the needed supplies and materials for the maintenance of the area. Purchase supplies and materials using the state schedule of contracts, according to established procedures. Interview and recommend employee selection; evaluate employee performance and prepare and sign employee evaluation performance reports. Approve or disapprove leave requests. Must be knowledgeable of Union agreements and comply with same. Receive employee complaints or grievance, conduct investigation into cause and condition, discuss with employee and recommend solution to grievance and complaints. Knowledge of the safety precautions required in the building trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical trades. Ensure that safety meetings are conducted according to Bureau guidelines. Prepare rough sketches of diagrams for projects; determine needs in terms of equipment and supplies. Notify manager of needs to complete projects.

Complete and submit required reports including time sheets, work project reports, daily automotive reports, gas and oil distribution reports. Prepare rough sketches of buildings, waterlines, landscaping, roads, bridges, trails, drainage structures for construction. Prepares estimates of costs for major maintenance and minor construction projects. Supervise the operation and maintenance of all of the parks automotive, heavy equipment and motorized equipment. Occasionally may be required to operate such equipment. Knowledge of the basic principle, methods and techniques utilized in the building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical trades is required. Plan, organize, schedule and assign work to subordinates and reviews performance. Demonstrate proper methods and techniques for performance of the work and operation of equipment such as jack hammers, air hammers, air compressors, log splitters and chain and radial-arm saws to subordinates; discuss safety precautions and hazards with subordinates and ensure safety procedures are followed.

Prepares time sheets for subordinates indicating time worked, leave taken and overtime worked.

Supervises water and sewage treatment plant operations.

Maintains an inventory of the park(s) non-expendable and semi-expendable items.

Attend required training sessions and workshops. This individual is the park's Right to Know and Safety Officer: Ensure that Right to Know Employee Workplace Notice is posted prominently in the workplace at a location(s) where employee notices are normally posted, completes a Hazardous Substance Survey Form by April 1 of each year which inventories hazardous substances found in the workplace during the prior calendar year, must obtain and keep an updated file system or three ring binder of all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous substances found in the workplace, ensure that all containers and ports of pipelines in the workplace that contain hazardous substances are properly labeled so employees can easily identify the contents, ensure that annual Right to Know training is conducted for salaried and wage employees and that training is properly documented.

This position may require you to perform your job duties at Clear Creek and Cook Forest State Park.
