Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Nursery Operation Duties: - Assists with sowing and covering seed in nursery beds - Operates and performs maintenance on nursery irrigation system - Operates lawn mowers and weed eaters in maintaining nursery grounds and satellite orchard sites - Operates backpack sprayers for applying pesticides under guidance of licensed applicator - Assists in the packing and shipping of seedlings - Operates pack tying machines during seedling packaging operations - Operates and performs routine maintenance on mowers, rototiller, chainsaw, brush cutter and similar sized equipment - Assists in the collection and transportation of pine needles from plantations for nursery use - Weeds nursery beds - Assists with fertilizer applications on seedling beds and seed orchards and maintains records of treatments - Assists with potting seedings and maintaining greenhouse and shade-house - Maintains nursery fences and gates - Assists in the lifting, transportation, packing and shipping of seedlings - Loads, unloads and racks seedling tubs for transport to cold storage unit - Installs and moves shade frames and shading cloth in nursery beds - Builds and repairs shade frames - Performs maintenance, roofing, masonry, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work on nursery grounds and satellite work sites under direction of supervisor - Reads and utilizes blueprints, schematics, maps and/or diagrams in building and nursery maintenance and repairs - Cleans lunch room, rest rooms, counting room and other areas as assigned - Operates trucks and other vehicles to transport materials and workers to various work sites - Operates equipment in absence of equipment operator or under the direction of supervisor -Assists with sorting and stacking of lumber if needed and under the direction of supervisor - Assists in the production of picnic tables if needed and under the direction of supervisor - Assists in the collection and processing of tree seed from nursery seed orchards and state forest lands Miscellaneous Duties: - Performs other related job duties as required - Completes weekly time sheets and other reports as needed - Attends safety training as directed |
