Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is skilled work at the journey level in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and/or heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, units, equipment, and peripheral devices within the Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services, Youth Development Center/Youth (YDC/YFC) Forestry Camp system. • Work is carried out under the guidelines of federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to refrigeration and/or HVAC operations and maintenance, and established trade practices. YDC/YFC facilities operate on a 24-hour, 7 day a week basis and are both secure and open programs. Work is performed under the supervision of the BJJS Facility Operations Manager 2 and is reviewed through inspections, meetings, reports, and customer satisfaction. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. • Responds to service calls; locates and diagnoses malfunctions; performs maintenance and repair; responds to emergencies by going onsite and troubleshooting problems. • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation or repair. • Installs, maintains, and repairs refrigeration and/or HVAC systems, units, equipment, and peripheral devices. • Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. • Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the timely availability of materials required at the job site. • Accesses automated systems via a computer; monitoring temperatures, humidity levels and other data; adjusting on-line or in person; monitoring adjustments to ensure desired results; and conducting building inspections to ensure adequate heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, and circulation in buildings. • Performs on-going and preventive maintenance and prepares reports of activities. Uses automated control systems for identifying trends and troubleshooting as it is integral to the operation of this highly complex equipment; works with building automation staff (or outside contractor) on the ongoing operation and maintenance of this equipment. • Recovers and recycles refrigerants and carries out the service and repair of refrigeration and equipment containing refrigerants in accordance with the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules and regulations and according to manufacturer's specifications and EPA rules and regulations. • Services reach-in and walk-in refrigerators, ice making machines and other electrical appliances •Tests open and closed water systems, adds chemicals, records test results, and makes necessary adjustments. Cooling Tower adjustments and Legionella testing (twice annually) ANSI/ASHRE Standard 188-2015. • Checks temperatures in condensate lines and traps; repairs or replaces traps as required using temperature sensing and ultrasonic equipment; and cleans, repairs, or replaces strainers, valves, operators, and other fittings. • Participates in the performance of other trades’ tasks consistent with operational and organizational requirements. • Interprets and applies blueprints, schematics, shop drawings, wiring diagrams, sketches, manufacturer's operating and maintenance instructions, and other plans and specifications to aid in the installation, repair, and redesign of new or existing equipment. |
