Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is semi-skilled manual work in the construction and maintenance of various public works projects. An employee in this class performs semi-skilled work alone or assists a skilled worker; or may function as lead worker for a small crew of manual workers performing routine tasks. Work involves the use of a large variety of construction and maintenance equipment and tools in many different tasks, which frequently require the application of skills acquired on the job. Employees receive oral/written instructions and work is inspected during the process and upon completion.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

1. Drives a light truck to transport personnel and materials to and from field locations; and assists in the performance of the job.
2. Cuts grass with weed eater, uses hand power mower, riding lawn mower, rake leaves and debris. Trim and plant shrubs and flowers.
3. Load and unload truck; move furniture and/or equipment, Dig ditches, clean culverts or manholes and tunnels.
4. Performs snow removal with the use of manual and powered equipment such as shovels, plows, snowblowers, etc.
5. Responsible for maintaining and assisting with repairs to all equipment they use.
6. Makes repairs to buildings or building facilities while using tools of the carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other building trades.
7. Acts as a helper to skilled trades workers and/or Maintenance Repairman II’s and assists them in performance of their duties such as painting, scraping, sanding and assists with the completion of work orders.
8. Must be able to Erect scaffolds, climb ladders, run cement mixers, use wheelbarrows, and assist in demolition and removal of debris from job sites.
9. Performs other related duties by following the instructions of the supervisor or managers in order to provide for continuity of services. These other related duties may include, but are not limited to other trades work, laboring, housekeeping, grounds, and some equipment operation within your capabilities such as a forklift, pallet jack, tractor, manlifts etc.

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature.

Makes decisions of a routine and recurring nature based upon established Hospital policies and guidelines, training, job knowledge and competency.
Communicates with Foreman and / or Facility Maintenance Managers for input on decisions regarding non-routine, unusual situations / circumstances and material acquisition.

Experience:

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year of experience in
laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in
maintenance or construction.

Essential Functions

 1. Recognizes occupational hazards and follows safety precautions.
 2. Operates single chassis trucks, tractors, grounds care equipment, snow removal equipment.
 3. Uses and cares for hand tools, shop tools, and equipment needed to accomplish work.
 4. Identifies defects in trucks or equipment and assists in repairing them.
 5. Work may include climbing upon trucks ladders, scaffolding, loading areas, and buildings.
 6. Comprehend assignments received orally or from work orders and have effective written/oral communications ability.
 7. Works cooperatively with other staff, patients and outside personnel.
 8. Responsible for keeping work areas clean and neat and organized.
 9. Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions.
 10. Records time and materials used on a work order form or provided tracking sheet.
