Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The primary duty of this position is to plan, direct, and supervise the maintenance and construction of roads, trails, facilities, equipment, and any infrastructure within the Pinchot Forest District. This position will also assist with wildfire suppression duties within the Pinchot Forest District. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Supervise maintenance and trades position engaged in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment, and in the construction and maintenance of state forest roads, trails, facilities and infrastructure. Instruct employees on work to be performed, proper methods, safety procedures, and proper techniques required to complete any or all work assignments. Interpret work assignments, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for forest maintenance and construction activities. Perform the evaluation of projects and makes recommendations to District Management. Plan, organize, schedule, and assign work to employees based upon district work plans and goals. Establish standards to measure employee performance, discuss performance standards with employees, evaluates employees performance, prepares and signs performance evaluation reports, and discusses reports with subordinates. Receives grievances and complaints, conducts investigations into causes and conditions, discuss with employees, and resolve or recommend solutions to grievances or complaints. Interview prospective employees and recommend employee selection or rank applicants in terms for employment. Review and approve or disapprove leave requests from subordinates. Interpret contractual and administrative rights and obligations for employees and ensure work environment or process conforms to contractual obligations. Demonstrate proper methods and techniques for performing the work to subordinates, discuss safety precautions and hazards with subordinates, and ensure safety procedures are followed. Prepare rough sketches, drawings, or diagrams for projects. Determine the needs in terms of manpower, equipment, and supplies. Notify supervisor of requirements to complete projects. Ensure time sheets for subordinates indicating time worked, leave taken, overtime worked, and activities performed are completed. Prepare or review automotive equipment reports, heavy equipment logs, and ensure they are complete and accurate. Prepare reports on forest maintenance activities as required. Prepare cost estimates for maintenance of minor construction activities. Purchase project materials. Obtain bids for contractual services, and recommend appropriate vendors based upon knowledge of required services. Complete PA 1 calls for all earth disturbing activities. Attends Dirt and Gravel Workshop and Forest Maintenance Supervisor Meeting annually. Ensure subordinates complete all training as required. Plan, Implement, and Conduct wildfire control, suppression activities, assist with prescribed fire activities. Supervises fire fighting activities during district fire emergencies. Serves as a State Forest Officer. Operates a motor vehicle to travel to various work sites. Protect unique flora and fauna, geologic formations, watersheds, stream quality, and archaeological features within the Pinchot Forest District. Oath and Duties of Pennsylvania Forest Fire Warden. Other Duties as assigned. |

Decision making required for utilizing various methods and equipment to complete various tasks in a safe and efficient manner. |
