Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position provides semi-skilled manual work in the construction and maintenance of state parks throughout State Parks Region 2. An employee in this class performs semi-skilled work alone or assists a skilled workman, or may have the responsibility for leading a small crew of manual workers performing routine tasks. Work involves use of a large variety of construction and maintenance equipment and tools in many different tasks which frequently require the application of skills acquired on the job. Employees receive oral and/or written instructions and work is checked by inspection during process and upon completion. This position performs duties that are routinely executed seven days a week and will be routinely scheduled to work weekends, evenings and holidays as needed for park operations and to meet seasonal needs. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Performs a wide variety of manual work in the maintenance of grounds and facilities of a state park. Knowledgeable in the use of tools used in the grounds and maintenance field as well as carpentry, plumbing and masonry trades. Performs a wide variety of tasks including mowing grass and weeds with power tools and tractors, cutting wood, clearing brush and downed trees with power and non-power tools. Performs ground maintenance by mowing or cutting weeds or grass, using a riding mower, hand mower, or weed eater; clearing downed trees and cutting firewood; picks up litter and trash; loads and moves materials in dump trucks or pick-up trucks; cleans grills; sweeps paved areas; digs holes and ditches; cleans drains and culverts. Duties also include site preparation, seeding and establishment of new turf areas; planting and maintaining trees and shrubs. Operates and maintains a variety of equipment including dump truck, small tractors used for mowing and possible snow removal and 4-wheel drive vehicles including a pickup. Performs custodial duties to include; cleaning of restrooms, floors, window, clean and empty garbage cans, pick-up letter, clean buildings, stock paper supplies custodial duties including cleaning restrooms and other park buildings, picking up trash and painting buildings both interior and exterior. Assists and makes repairs to existing buildings and facilities; also assists in the construction of new facilities using the tools of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and roofing trades in the performance of maintenance and construction work assigned. Perform a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled groundskeeping duties including but not limited to painting buildings, emptying trash, sweeping, raking leaves, dirt, etc., mopping and construction duties such as installing roofs and assisting in building construction and renovation. Assists with resource management and habitat work within the park or at various state park locations. Resource management work may include assistance with management of invasive plants and pests through mechanical and chemical means at the direction of the park manager, maintenance supervisor, or resource management section. May also participate in prescribed fire applications. Will be required to attend various training sessions at various locations statewide. May be required to travel on park business outside park boundaries for various lengths of time. Is responsible for the safe and proper use of all equipment, vehicle, power tools and hand tools as well as routine and preventative maintenance. Assists park visitors and disseminates information in a friendly, helpful manner. Completes all necessary forms/records, such as daily records, automotive mileage sheets, fuel dispensing records and leave slips. Operates two-way radio in accordance with proper procedure. Performs other related tasks and duties as required by designated supervisor. |
