Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. TIMBER MANAGEMENT a. Obtain timber volumes by marking and/or cruising as prescribed by the Forester in charge of the sale. b. Surveys and marks timber sale boundaries, herbicide spray blocks and planting sites laid out by a forester utilizing GPS technology. Plots surveys and creates appropriate maps for approval of a Forester. c. Enters data collected by Foresters and other staff into the appropriate database. d. Maybe assigned as lead worker for a crew of other Forest Technicians and/or Semi- Skilled Laborers for the execution of projects planned by Foresters. These projects may include such things as deer fence construction and maintenance, tree planting, timber marking, seed collection, wildlife habitat management, herbicide application and prescribed burns. e. Maintains database of timber sale operators and herbicide records. f. Operates and maintains hand and power tools, including chain saws and brush cutter. g.Collect field information for regeneration, competing vegetation treatment analysis, Rx fire, and vegetation impact protocolplots on data recorders or other devices as prescribed and directed by the foresters. h.Will work outside during inclement weather. i.Will safely handle, mix, and apply insecticide/herbicide at designated locations as per the label and under the guidance of aForester or other certified Public Applicator. INSECT AND DISEASE a.Assists District Forest Health Coordinator with surveillance flights, ground checking and spray projects. FOREST FIRE PROTECTION a.Assists with forest fire prevention, education, Rx fire, pre-suppression and suppression activities. RECREATION MANAGEMENT a.Assist Recreation Forester with leased camp program. b.Support district recreation infrastructure and take recreational trainings when available. c.Assist with volunteer recreational projects, events, and public contact programs. PEFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY DISTRICT FORESTER. |
