Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Manages and coordinates recreational and leisure activities for the inmate population.

Provides direct supervision to Activity Specialists.

Plans, organizes, and directs the scheduling of sports events, games participation, and guest appearances of entertainers, lectures, concerts, and other performing groups.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Plans, organizes, directs, schedules and coordinates a program of leisure time activities in creative and performing arts, social recreation, music, athletics, and special events.

Participates in policy development in correlation with security regulations.

Prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment and maintains I.G.W.F. records in accordance with guidelines established for the expenditure of appropriate and non-appropriate funds.

Participates in the identification and development of individual interests and talents for recreational, vocational and for therapeutic purposes and develops programs to meet these needs.

Coordinates the scheduling of sports events, games participation and guest appearances of entertainers, lecturers, concerts and performing groups, so as not to interfere with other services and programs.

Maintain records and prepares reports on inmate work performance and recommends changes in inmate pay.

Promotes community understanding, acceptance and involvement in a variety of leisure time activities.

Recruits qualified volunteers to instruct groups and individuals in a variety of various recreational activities.

Supervises professional employees, inmates and volunteers workers in recreational activities.

Prepares assessments of individual inmate’s leisure time needs, interests, degree of participation and other relevant information useful in the evaluation of the individual treatment plan.

Assumes responsibilities for the care, custody and control of assigned inmate workers and inmate activity participants.

Directs the scheduling of appropriate videotapes to be viewed by inmate population over the designated movie channel.

Coordinates the Artist and Music in Residency programs with the Department of Corrections.

Assigned to the Initial Reception Review Committee and Program Review Committee as needed.

Directs the management of the Activities Department to ensure inmate recreational needs are being met.

Directs and supervises an Activity Manager I and makes independent supervising/management decisions.

Independently provides reports for Administrative review.
