Position Purpose:

Provides educational development and overview for Pennsbury's mission. Coordinates visitor services, reports on visitation and revenue and participates in public programming.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of museum education. Undertakes research in techniques of interpretation and presentation and into history of site. Researches material culture as it relates to the site and program offerings.

Designs and implements tours and programs; trains others to implement tours and programs he has designed.

Evaluates guides’ tours for accuracy and accessibility with the volunteer coordinator.

Assists in program development, grant preparation and strategic and tactical planning. Assists with subsequent accreditation. Works on developing and serving special audiences such as scouting groups, homeschool groups, Interns and College or professional groups.

Acts as lead staff member on interpretive issues. Assists with and or serves as lead on grant writing efforts. Maintains an updated interpretive plan for the site. Leads program calendar of events.

Assists Society staff with distance learning program including video conferencing programs and equipment and cell phone tours. Provides support/information to Society staff on internet programs and website development as needed.

Trains all site personnel in issues regarding accessibility for all audiences (including non-English speaking, handicapped, special interest, mixed generation, etc.). Develops programs for special audiences and trains other staff to present them. In cooperation with Society Volunteer Coordinator, develops and implements all variety of volunteer training as necessary. In coordination with professional staff develops and implements staff training as needed. Serves as staff security and accessibility expert/advocate.

Works with lead volunteer on growing and managing the library to assist with strong research for programming at the site. Works with staff to assure proper and up to date use of technology in site interpretation.

Responsible for overseeing visitor service operations. Coordinates staff schedules to assure visitor services & program coverage. Works on coordination of visitor services including but not limited to; issuing of keys to guides, issuing walkie talkies to staff, checking in groups, checking to make sure comfort facilities are clean and well stocked, making sure all public areas are clean and presentable for the variety of audiences visiting Pennsbury. Oversees entering of all site reservations and or confirmations (by checking) that proper reservations have been made. Supervises the sending of our pre-visit materials (and or works with appropriate Society staff to assure same). Ensures POS system is operational and monthly reconciliation and monitoring is complete. Makes sure daily security checks have been conducted. Handles reporting of both visitation and revenue for the site to the Bureau.

Manages and or coordinates interns and student workers as appropriate. Manages both major and minor programming as appropriate and shares with Society and fellow PHMC staff.

Provides support and input in preparing publicity and public relations materials including quarterly newsletter, calendars, signs/fliers, and press releases in coordination with Manager Director of Society and marketing staff or contractors of Pennsbury Society.

Responsible for site security including opening and closing procedures; fire safety; first aid; security and safety emergencies; and safety training of staff. Serves as accessibility advocate/coordinator and reports to HSA on same.

Represents site on regional committees and task forces as assigned.

Educator is responsible to be familiar with PHMC general safety rules and safety rules specific to this site; for working in a safe manor and following all PHMC safety rules; immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to their supervisor; and to immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area or report same to supervisor.

Enforces all safety rules, procedure, and work practices and takes action to correct unsafe conditions in the workplace. Travels occasionally to other PHMC sites to review interpretation and programming and may prepare reports for those sites. Acts as an advisor on museum education issues as needed.

Initiates policies on site interpretation based upon documented research. Manages staff schedules to meet the needs of visitor services. Initiates POS adjustments and coordinates visitation and revenue reporting for the site. Schedules trainings and programming such as summer camps. Develops annual program calendar to be confirmed and executes by the combined staff of the site.
