Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Provides public safety work in the field of State Park operations and outdoor recreation in order to promote the safe utilization of facilities at Ohiopyle State Park. This position performs duties that are routinely executed seven days a week and will routinely be scheduled to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed for park operations and to meet seasonal needs. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Presents a professional image to the general public through wearing of prescribed uniform, uniform appearance, communication skills, courtesies, and knowledge of the park, the environment and history. Uses computer programs such as Windows, Microsoft Office, and Aspira to do a variety of park related tasks. Prepares correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other written materials and inputs data using a computer. Position can be highly administrative dependent on assigned work location. Meets with park visitors to answer questions regarding park facilities, recreational schedules, park history, environmental features, and surrounding area. Patrols park area by various motorized vehicles, watercraft, bicycle and on foot. Explains park rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and objectives to park visitors and special interest groups. Informs Park Manager or DCNR Ranger if visitor actions require additional law enforcement actions. Monitors security of park buildings and facilities. Assists proper staff with emergency situations including search and rescue, first aid/CPR, weather related events. Assists with traffic control and road closures. Performs incidental light maintenance duties as needed and directed to maintain safe and sanitary conditions. May assist with litter pickup, sign painting, and trail marking. Inspects buildings and park structures for safety hazards. Takes action to correct immediate hazards. Reports them to the maintenance supervisor and/or manager. Inspects trails and boundaries to ensure markers and signs are in place and no hazards present. Assists Environmental Education Specialist with programming, scheduling and advertising of programs. Assists with set-up and presentation of programs as needed. May lead recreational activities under the direction of the Environmental Education Specialist and Park Manager. Assists with set-up and presentation of programs as needed. Assists with planning, coordination, and implementation of volunteer projects and other events. Ensures park bulletin boards and brochure racks are kept updated, current, and in a clean and neat appearance. Attends applicable trainings to the position. Assist manager, administrative assistant, and other park staff with daily operations by fulfilling duties at assigned work locations. Duties specific to assigned work locations: Lower Youghiogheny White Water Boating Operations: May perform duties at launch window, launch site, and take out site. Responsible for maintaining safe and orderly movement of visitors preparing to launch including directing pedestrian traffic to staging areas, explaining the natural hazards, providing boating education, ensuring visitors have proper equipment, launch permits and shuttle bracelets. Informs visitors of the rules and regulations of the park. Assisting in booth operations including collection of fees, filling out necessary paperwork, keeping brochures and maps stocked, general opening and closing procedures, and monitoring of the water levels. Coordinates movement of park visitors with the park concessionaires. Ensures that all safety rules and regulations are being adhered to by all boaters. Monitors launch and take out locations for safety, order, launch times, and shuttle operations. Park office and visitor’s center: Provide general customer service by interacting with visitors. Answer the phone/emails, prepare reports, process fees, process campground reservations, give recommendations and directions. Maintain brochure racks, informative displays, and organized/clean workplace. Campground/Contact Station: Provide general customer service to campground visitors. Utilize the Aspira reservation system to make, modify, and verify reservations. Process fees, run reports, prepare keys and tags. Patrol campground, post/remove tags and keys, monitor cleanliness and hazards at campground, monitor extra vehicles at sites, work with campground host, handle concerns and complaints, inform visitors of rules and regulations. Communicate hazards, violations, and maintenance items to appropriate personnel. Performs other duties as assigned. |

Employee recognizes and responds to safety concerns and emergency situations within the park; answers questions from the public regarding the park's features, services, and activities. |
