Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position provides advanced technical work in supervising and performing field work with a group of survey corps engaged in engineering surveys to collect, record and plot data for various engineering projects, development, design, and construction phases of projects, and map-making purposes for the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation (BAMR) within DEP. Responsible for performing work with the survey corps engaged in determining the exact location and measurement of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours of the earth's surface to secure, record and plot data used for construction, map-making, land valuation, mining, excavation calculations, deed research, property corner/line location, as-built drawings, site layout, and other purposes. Work may involve completing surveying related requests from the other various sections within the Bureau. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Coordinates and completes the activities of survey corps engaged in all types of conventional surveying activities including preliminary, construction, and final surveys. Gathers and reviews data from various legal, technical and professional sources to resolve any discrepancies related to property lines, easements, rights-of-way, or any problems related to land surveying throughout the Commonwealth. Focuses on complex survey task and coordination with other BAMR sections allowing the Survey Technician Supervisor to manage the daily routine survey activities of the survey crew. Surveys and calculates earth and rock quantities by standard engineering methods, for determining payment of contracts. Preparation, writing or rewriting of deed descriptions for clarity and accuracy. Supervises surveys of high complexity which may involve unusual or difficult problems. Consults with appropriate engineering employees to resolve difficult or unusual problems of an engineering nature within all sections of the Bureau. Communicates and coordinates with construction engineers to provide all survey related work requirements during project construction. Attends pre-construction conferences to assist in reviewing surveying activities related to proposed construction. Conducts all field work required for the development, design, and construction of any type of project. Travels to all project locations within the historic Bituminous Coal Mining Regions of Pennsylvania. Provides survey assistance to AMD staff and BAMR staff in the Anthracite Coal Mining Regions on a limited basis if time permits. Performs all surveying work necessary to advance the mission of the Bureau. Promotes the Department's mission. Inputs appropriate data in a prescribed format to meet data quality standards set forth by guidance, training, and policy across all of DEP’s electronic data systems; to include ensuring accuracy and completeness of entries, and where available, the use of system specific tools to ensure duplicative entries and data quality issues are minimized.
