Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Exercises lead worker duties providing guidance and direction to lower-level personnel while performing cleaning of offices, restrooms, and other public areas.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Acts as lead worker over lower-level personnel in the performance of custodial duties.

Distributes the required equipment and appropriate supplies to the crew, and ensures the assignments are properly performed.

Orientates and informs new employees of their duties and assigned work areas. Instruct new employees on the proper use and care of equipment; the proper use of detergents, disinfectants, chemicals, etc.; and the proper cleaning methods and procedures.

Informs the supervisor of needed supplies and equipment. Ensures that supplies and equipment are stored and utilized in a safe and orderly manner. Makes certain that all supplies and equipment are returned to the proper place at the end of each shift.

Sweeps and mops restroom floors. Washes and cleans all restroom furnishings, to include mirrors, toilets, urinals, partitions, walls, sinks, etc. Ensures that an adequate amount of restroom supplies is available for use and replenishes as needed. Reports any discrepancies, such as burnt-out or blinking light bulbs, plumbing leaks, clogged drains, etc., to the immediate supervisor.

Cleans and dusts office furnishings, office equipment, file cabinets, etc. Polishes furniture items, such as chairs, desks, conference tables, bookshelves, etc.

Gathers and places trash/recycling materials in the appropriate containers and transports to a designated pick-up point.

Dusts, mops, and removes spots and spills from office floors, hallways, stairways, elevators, and public areas. May be required to use an extractor to clean-up large amounts of water. Vacuums all carpeted areas.

Dusts and cleans windows, windowsills, blinds, and the outside of radiant units. Washes baseboards, walls, partitions, doors, and door grillwork.

Cleans and polishes brass fixtures throughout the building.

Performs more complex cleaning operations such as cleaning marble walls, statues, display cases, etc., and directs the work of other employees in these operations.

Operates, uses, and makes minor repairs, and performs routine preventative maintenance to small cleaning machines, such as buffers, floor scrubbers, extractors, vacuums, etc.; reports all major equipment problems to the immediate supervisor.

Sweeps and cleans the outside building entrances and sidewalks of any debris, plus empties ashtrays and trash containers.

May possibly be required to move furniture, equipment, and supplies, from one area to another, and to operate a pallet jack or dolly in order to do so.

Reports the presence of any unauthorized personnel in the building to the supervisor. Before departure from unoccupied offices, ensures that all lighting is off, doors are locked, etc. Returns all office keys to the supervisor before the end of the shift.

Shovels snow and removes ice from outside entrances, stairways, steps, etc. Spreads rock salt and/or other de-icing agents.

Performs other related duties as required.

As a lead worker, provides guidance and direction to lower-level personnel while performing custodial duties. Distributes equipment and supplies and instructs on the proper use and cleaning methods. Requests and receives guidance, from the supervisor, on unusual or sensitive situations.
