Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Wood Shop Operation Duties: - Assists with set up and operation of wooden sign shop equipment; including planers, bandsaw, joiners, routers, shaper, drill press, radial arm saw, table saw and a large variety of hand operated power tools - Assists with maintenance of wooden sign shop equipment as required - Follows instructions given by supervisor, sign orders, and blueprints, checking for accuracy - Performs the operation of sanding, cutting, staining, painting, machining wood materials for products produced in wood shop - Follow wood shop safety policies - Moves sign and project lumber to wood shop from lumber yard in the absence of equipment operators - Operates spraying equipment in wood shop spray booth for finishing wood products - Packages and stacks plaques, sign and other wood products for shipment - Loads wood products by hand or forklift in the absence of equipment operators - Helps to maintain cleanliness of wood shop Table Shop Operation Duties: - Handles lumber in picnic table assembly line - Feeds sorted lumber into table shop equipment, gang saws, cut-off saw, spindle borer, straight line rip saw, planer - Strips and stacks machined table parts and raw lumber - Follows table shop safety policy - Assists with maintenance on table shop equipment as required - Assembles picnic table kits checking for accuracy of components - Assists with the set-up of lumber bottoms for aligning lumber stacks in lumber yard - Assists in maintaining a clean working environment for all Nursery Operation Duties: - Assists with sowing and covering of seed in forest nursery beds - Operates backpack sprayers for applying insecticides and herbicides under guidance of licensed applicator - Operates Saxmayer tying machines - Operates and performs routine maintenance on mowers, rototiller, chainsaw, brush cutter and similar sized equipment - Collects tree seed in orchards and other collection areas - Weeds nursery beds - Assists with maintenance of nursery and seed orchard fences and gates - Lifts tree seedlings from beds and packs into tubs - Loads, unloads and racks seedling tubs for transport to cold storage unit - Builds and repairs shade frames - Performs maintenance, roofing, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work on nursery grounds and satellite work sites under direction of supervisor - Cleans lunch room, rest rooms, counting room and other areas as assigned - Operates trucks and other vehicles to transport materials and workers to various work sites - Operates equipment in absence of equipment operator or under the direction of supervisor - Assists in shipping seedlings using contracted vendor including: packaging, boxing, applying shipping labels - Follows Nursery safety policies and practices Wildfire Suppression Duties: - Fight wildfires when called upon as part of Penn Nursery’s wildfire suppression team - Operates two-way radio as part of fire suppression duties - Uses approved equipment or tools to suppress forest fires Miscellaneous Duties: - Performs other related job duties as required - Completes weekly time sheets and other reports as needed - Attends safety training as directed |
