Assures the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care based on standards of nursing practice and standards of patient care through supervision of nursing staff.
Work overtime as required, subject to emergency call in.

This is a Registered Nurse Supervisor position under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager I. The RNS communicates and collaborates on a regular basis with the Chief Nurse Executive, Nurse Manager I, and other supervisors to assure consistent continuity of care and supervision. Serves as a resource person to nursing staff, nursing administration, members of the interdisciplinary team, and patient support services. The Registered Nurse Supervisor, through his/her daily physical presence, continuously reviews all phases of nursing service, acting as a patient advocate to ensure that patients are provided active treatment and has the major responsibility of direct clinical supervision and leadership by planning, directing, controlling, and evaluating the delivery of patient care in multiple patient care areas. The Registered Nurse Supervisor establishes and maintains a safe therapeutic environment for patients and staff; participates and monitors attendance in staff development programs; identifies and provides ongoing orientation/education and on-the-job training to professional and non-professional nursing personnel; applies knowledge and follows hospital/nursing policies and procedures; participates in Nursing PI and Hospital PI activities as well as nursing and facility committees/activities; utilizes therapeutic communication; provides knowledgeable daily communication with patients and all employees; maintains records, prepares reports, completes employee evaluations and competency assessments; performs other related duties as requested.
This employee has been assigned responsibility as a Patient Abuse Investigator at Wernersville State Hospital. As such, the employee is expected to participate in all required training and as assigned, conduct and carry out investigations in a professional and timely manner. Investigations will be carried out in a manner consistent with DHS Manual Section 7178 and Hospital Policy Section 703. While performing patient abuse investigations, the employee will be responsible directly to the CEO.

Essential Functions

 1. Supervises/directs professional/nonprofessional nursing staff / Acts as a patient advocate
 2. Operates, maintains and instructs in the use of medical equipment / Assures therapeutic/safe & clean environment.
 3. Provides inservice training to staff as assigned / Ensures that staff attend mandatory trainings
 4. Obtains and maintains Crisis Intervention & CPR certification, and appropriately utilizes skills / Provides staff debriefings as per policy.
 5. Observes, interprets, records and reports consumer behavioral/ medical changes / Audits and monitors quality of consumer care.
 6. Assigns staffing on a daily basis according to acuity throughout the shift / Manages time and attendance of subordinate staff.
 7. Manages overtime and maintains safe staffing minimums / Ensures safe staffing minimums for oncoming shift.
 8. Acts as Official in Charge in absence of Executive Clinical Team / Communicates directly to Administrator On Call, CEO, OHMSAS, and Physician On Call
 9. Serves on hospital committees & chairs nursing committees / Prepares and submits reports / Reads, writes and communicates orally in English
 10. Works overtime as required; subject to emergency call in / Works alternate schedules including weekends
