Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The purpose of this position is to assist with construction, electrical, masonry, plumbing, maintenance of equipment, buildings, roads, trails, boundary lines, and parking areas in the William Penn Forest District. Work involves minor repair jobs of a routine nature, which are carried out with only general supervision, or more advanced work assisting a journey level skilled tradesman or foreman in regular trades maintenance jobs. Supervision is received from a maintenance supervisor who assigns work, inspects work in progress, reviews reports, and inspects work upon completion. This position also includes the duties of Forest Fire Warden. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. MAINTENANCE – Assist with improvement, maintenance and repair of all William Penn Forest District buildings, facilities, and equipment using a variety of construction, electrical, masonry, and plumbing skills as directed. 1) Assist with the maintenance of district roads, right of ways, trails, boundary lines, and parking areas which includes constructing stone walls and culvert heads. 2) Assist with maintenance and improvements of the district office, field offices, pole barn, forest fire tower, stone cabins and pavilion which includes roofs doors, windows, locks, stone pointing, heating systems, plumbing, electrical fixtures and panels, painting, and step repairs. 3)Assist with the maintenance of all buildings and grounds under the supervision of William Penn Forest District, keeping them clean and in repair. 4) Assist with scheduled preventative maintenance and general repairs on automotive and other motorized equipment as directed. 5) Assist with the construction and installation of gates, signs, and other public access control devices on state forest land. 6) Cut grass using lawn care equipment. 7) Keep construction, electrical, plumbing, and masonry tools in good repair. 8) Assist with constructing picnic tables, storage boxes, signs, and displays as needed by the William Penn Forest District. INVENTORY AND STORAGE – Assist the district with maintaining an organized storage and inventory system. 1) Receive and store stock in an orderly manner. 2) Disperse stock with authorized approval. 3) Keep records of receipts and disbursements. 5) Submit records and reports as required. EXHIBIT CONSTRUCTION- Assist the William Penn Forest District with exhibits for use in district programs. 1) Assist with constructing exhibits for use in district programs using hand and power tools related to carpentry. 2) Assist in erecting and staffing displays and exhibits. 3) Store, maintain inventory, and provide periodic check of display material and exhibits within the district as directed. FIRE PROTECTION – Assist with forest fire protection duties as a Commonwealth employed forest fire warden. 1) Assist with wildfire prevention programs as assigned. 2) Assist with the maintenance and repair of wildfire suppression equipment including hand tools, pumps, associated piping and hose fittings. 3) Assist in detecting wildfires. 4) Assist with wildfire suppression activities as required. 5) Assist wildfire investigators in conducting wildfire investigations. 6) Assist and conduct training of forest fire crews and Fire Department personnel. 7) Assist with conducting Prescribed Fires. FOREST PEST MANAGEMENT - Assist in the district's forest insect and disease program. 1) Assist in forest insect and disease surveys as required. 2) Assist in the district's forest pest control/suppression programs. FEDERAL EXCESS AND DOD PROGRAM - Assist in transporting, inventorying and distribution of federal excess and DOD equipment as authorized under DCNR, Bureau of Forestry excess program. 1) Assist with federal excess property control agents and the Bureau of Forestry federal excess coordinator regarding property transfer. 2) Assist in identifying and securing federal excess equipment based on knowledge of wild land fire protection needs of forest districts and fire companies. 3) Assist in preparing and submitting forms and documents required for transferring federal equipment to the Commonwealth. OTHER - 1) Assist forestry staff in conducting public education programs 2) Assist in tree plantings. 3) Assist in boundary line maintenance. 4) Assist in forest vegetation and habitat management. |
