Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position entails public safety and visitors service work in state park operations and outdoor recreation within Nockamixon State Park. The Park Resource Ranger, under the supervision of the Asst. Park Manager, is responsible for performing a variety of public safety and visitor services designed to promote the safe utilization of recreational facilities at a state park. These duties are designed to protect park visitors, park facilities, and provide public contact. Work includes meeting with park visitors to answer questions regarding park facilities, recreational schedules, park history, and environmental features; explaining park rules, regulations, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives to park visitors and special interest groups; preparing and delivering presentations to school groups, civic groups, sportsmen associations, and other special interest groups on State Parks rules, regulations, policies, procedures, goals, objectives, facilities, schedules, history, and environmental features. Work primarily includes staffing the Marina building or park office during designated office hours to answer questions, sell park memorabilia, launch and mooring permits, and complete necessary reports and correspondence. Office work will require use of computer systems such as the Parks Reservation and Revenue System and other office programs including word processing and data base programs. Work also includes taking action during emergency situations such as water and automobile accidents to bring them under control; providing first aid to injured park visitors; organizing and conducting search and rescue operations to locate missing park visitors; inspecting buildings and park structures for safety hazards; inspecting concession for compliance with lease or permit conditions; and operating a motor vehicle. Work involves walking the park grounds, boundaries, and waters in order to provide public contact, ensure visitor safety, and inform visitors of the park rules and regulations including issuing parking tickets and courtesy notices. Employee will also cooperate with Game Commission, Fish and Boat Commission, Bureau of Forestry, and other law enforcement agencies. Work is assigned in the form of oral or written instructions and is reviewed upon completion for adherence to standards, completeness and quality by a technical, professional or administrative supervisor. In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Explains park rules, regulations and policies to the public. Reports non-compliance with rules to State Park Officers and assists as needed and may be required to request violators to leave the park when appropriate. Provides information and assistance to park visitors including answering questions regarding park facilities, resources, recreation, history, and environmental features. Takes appropriate action during emergency situations to ensure public safety. Administers first-aid including artificial respiration and CPR to injured persons. Assists in the staffing of park offices and visitor centers. Prepares letters, memoranda, correspondence, and reports as required. Answers telephone calls and provides callers with requested information, routes calls to appropriate individuals or agencies, and takes messages. Ensures brochure racks are stocked with appropriate literature. Operates the park radio system in accordance with established procedures. Participates in and conducts search and rescue efforts on land and water for lost and or injured individuals. Participates in fire prevention and suppression activities on an as needed basis. Canvasses state park property by vehicle, bicycle, and foot to ensure safety of park visitors. Cooperates with the PA State Police, Bureau of Forestry, PA Game Commission, PA Fish Commission, and other state and federal agencies regarding more serious incidents or incidents involving violations of rules and regulations of other agencies. Assists the EE staff with programs and presentations as directed by supervisor. Presents park related information to civic groups, sportsman’s associations, and other groups on and off site. Operates motor vehicles, which may include two and four wheel drive vehicles and all terrain vehicles on state park property in the performance of assigned duties. Keeps appropriate records on automotive, safety, incidents and others as directed by the supervisor. Ensures all buildings and structures are secure and inspects for safety hazards; takes action to correct hazards and reports them to supervisor. Performs light maintenance duties as needed. Inspects trails and boundaries to ensure markers and signs are in place. Performs additional and related work as required. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Possession of a valid American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Certificate; or any combination of valid certificates in standard first aid and adult, child and infant CPR. Obtain CPR/First Aid yearly updates. In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years. |
