Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

An employe in this class is responsible for providing custodial services to maintain a safe, clean, odor free, and comfortable environment for students, staff and visitors.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Provides floor care from daily cleaning to stripping and waxing through the operation of all custodial equipment including automatic floor scrubbers, floor polishers, vacuum cleaners (wet and dry), carpet extractors and the use of dust mops, damp mops, mop buckets and wringers.

Provides thorough cleaning disinfecting offices, hallways, lounges, restrooms and shower rooms through the operation of the appropriate use of cleaning chemicals and tools as required.

Provides the thorough cleaning of student living quarters which are occupied using the following guidelines:

a: Dust and mop bathroom floors, hallways, lounge areas and laundry rooms.
b. Clean and disinfect toilet and shower areas.
c. Supply room with paper products and soap.
d. Vacuum dorm room carpet.

Provides cleaning for vacated rooms using the following guidelines.

a. Disinfect bed, counter, lamp, drawers, shelves, sink, toilet, windows, blinds,
and mirrors.
b. Empty and clean garbage can.
c. Dust and mop bathroom floor.
d. Supply room with paper products and soap.
e. Vacuum and extract carpeting.

Set up and work from scaffolding, portable lift and ladders to wash walls, ceilings, draperies, light fixtures, air vents, skylights and windows both manual and high window washing equipment.

Remove snow from outside entrance steps and ramps.
Move furniture within the building of assignment.

Assist in the evacuation of students when called upon.

Pick up, distribute and mark linen.

During room cleaning, check walls, doors and overall physical condition of the room and give a report to the immediate supervisor.

Check for repairs needed such as leaks, plaster problems, etc. and give a report to the immediate supervisor.

Custodial Worker I personnel are under the direct supervision of the Custodial Work Supervisor. Custodial duties are assigned by written, prearranged work schedules, job description routines, along with oral and written instructions.

Essential Functions

 1. Provides all phases of floor care.
 2. Operates all provided cleaning equipment; moves furniture and equipment to clean.
 3. Cleans/disinfects/waxes assigned areas, maintain a safe work environment.
 4. Replenishes soap and paper products.
 5. Able to lift, bend, stoop and work in adverse environmental conditions.
 6. Sets up/works from & dismantles scaffolding.
 7. Follows all safety policies & procedures.
 8. Legally operates state vechicles.
 9. Attends scheduled meetings & trainings. Monitoring, responding and closure of completed work orders.
 10. Reads product info/SDS/instructions/etc.
