Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. The Division Chief for Instructional Quality is responsible for the leadership and management of curriculum instruction and delivery, the development of program policies in the Division and for directing the planning, developing and coordinating curriculum and academic services and support throughout the Commonwealth. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Provides leadership and directs the work for the development of standards alignment and curriculum development for elementary and secondary education in the Commonwealth. Coordinates the development, implementation, review, and evaluation of curriculum and accountability programs. Manages the creation of resources to support LEAs in the development of curriculum, standards-aligned instruction, and assessment practices. Assists and collaborates with the Division of Assessment and Accountability in aligning assessments to standards. Manages the creation of professional development and training opportunities on academic standards, curriculum alignment, and research-based instructional practices. Leads the development of guidance materials that provide teaching strategies and alternative instructional methods to support student achievement. Provides leadership in the formation of short and long-range policies and Division work. Manages Division staff in the work of providing technical support to local education agencies, school districts, and IUs. Develops and maintains a strong networking and collaborative partnership with IU officials to provide interpretation and implementation guidance of state/federal policies and regulations relative to curriculum and instruction. Provides input on Division and Bureau strategic planning and budgetary processes. Provides oversight of the Standards Aligned Systems (SAS) Portal and the SAS Institute. Provides input on legislative policy proposals and regulations affecting educational programming, academic standards, curriculum frameworks, and instructional practices. Assists in the development of regulations, academic standards, guidelines, management plans, courses, and instructional strategies. Interprets education and administrative policies and creates resources as necessary. Collaborates with personnel within the Bureau, other agencies, state and federal organizations, school officials, professional development organizations, and private/public organizations in developing, achieving, and promoting the Division and Bureau goals. Supervises and directs staff. Performs other related duties. |
