Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Learns to perform a variety of skilled duties relating to the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, electrical distribution equipment and electrical components within the Capitol Complex, Harrisburg Annex, Reading Office Bldg., Scranton Office Bldg., and outlying Harrisburg buildings under the direction of a licensed electrician.

ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE – REQUIRED TO WORK DURING EMERGENCIES AND OFFICE CLOSINGS

This is an entry level position that will need to complete a 48 month in house apprenticeship program.

Learns to perform electrical duties, including the installation and maintenance of electrical items such as wiring, panel boards, service equipment, circuit breakers, transfer switches, feeders, indoor and outdoor lighting, multi-wire branch circuits, single and polyphase controls, electric valves, motors and motor controls, ventilating fans, heaters, compressors, electric steam boilers, solenoids, relays, transformers, modular furniture electric distribution, building automation systems and other electrical equipment.

Gains independence in a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code standards while completing an apprenticeship program.

Learns to identify, pinpoint, and correct power failures and short circuits.

Aims to become responsible for effective utilization of volt-ohm-milliamp meter, amprobe, megger and other electrical meters and devices in day-to-day performance of assigned electrical work.

Assists in following blueprints, drawing specifications and layout sketches to prepare for material requirements. Also coordinates efforts with other tradesmen and department coordinators for projects to run consecutively.

Carries, erects, and works from ladders, scaffolding, and manlifts to heights of 40 feet. Will be trained in the proper use to working with safety equipment such as a harness and safety belt.

Learns to become responsible for layout and performance of work relating to measuring, cutting, threading, bending, assembly and installation of ½ inch thru 4-inchsteel conduit.

Reviews the work for adherence to standards.

Shovels and removes snow and ice from entrances, walkways, steps, etc. Spreads rock salt, calcium, sand, or other deicing agents, and operates spreaders and snow blowers.

Drives to various locations throughout the Capitol Complex.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Works with and learns from supervisor to accomplish assigned tasks. Selects the proper tools, equipment, and supplies, and coordinates with supervisors on the appropriate course of action required for each assignment always being aware of job hazards & safety measures. Requests and receives guidance from the supervisor on unusual situations.
