Perform as a crew member for the District Line Painting operations with the goal of safely and economically renewing all the District’s long lines annually through the efficient use of equipment, line paint and bead materials. Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Performs a variety of duties associated with the operation of a truck-mounted highway pavement marking machine. Operates either a right or left pavement line spray paint gun assuring proper application and placement of single or dual lines. Checks pressure gauges and other operational indicators including paint gallonage and temperature for proper machine functioning. Operates the vehicle housing the mounted spray paint apparatus utilizing vehicle speed and lane centering to assure clear and properly-spaced pavement markings of proper thickness. Operates supply truck over four tons stripped weight to furnish glass beads, cold plastics, paints and other materials used in the large traffic line-painting machine operation. Applies routine preventive maintenance procedures to specific working parts of line painting apparatus as well as minor vehicle maintenance duties such as oiling and greasing. Prepares daily reports of gallons of paint consumed and current readings of foot counters to comply with Department accounting requirements. Performs snow removal duties and other general highway maintenance duties as needed. Performs other related duties as required including winter assignments in other units. Implements the environmental protection requirements of maintenance work activities performed by the employee. Also fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this title in environmental training programs. Recognizing that everyone is involved in the District's and County's actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, each employee fulfills the maintenance unit business plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP). Also, supports the efforts of other employees to meet these objectives. Attends environmental training designated for this Working Title. Safety 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. 3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. 4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. Succession Planning: Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy: Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principles. Failure to comply with the Department’s Green Plan Policy shall be documented in the employee’s performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0-hour day. |

All seasonal employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks (HT) and loaders (LD) within the probationary period. 2. All permanent employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks (HT) and loaders (LD) and two additional pieces of construction equipment within the probationary period. 3. All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. Certain positions may require that the E or O restriction are removed. 4. Certain positions in this job require employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission. 5. All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job. 6. Certain positions or equipment certifications may require employees to obtain an active Hazardous Materials (H) endorsement. 7. Based on hire date, positions may require possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations. 8.
