Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. TThe employee occupying this position is responsible and accountable for skilled work at the journeyman level on the installation, maintenance and repair of Secondary voltage electrical systems and including 480 volts, Energy management systems, communication systems, signal systems, fire alarms, camera systems, access control systems and related equipment/systems of various voltages. The employee carries out the following tasks on the grounds of Danville State Hospital under the close control and supervision of the Facility Operations Supervisor. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Installs, maintains, and/or repairs the secondary electrical systems by, but not necessarily limited to, installing conduits, wire mold, cables, and/or other raceways, installing all related fittings, boxes, hangers, supports, wiring, devices, fixtures, motors, controls and other related equipment. Repairs and maintains same in order to ensure that our electrical needs are met, and systems are safe and reliable. Performs weekly preventative maintenance and test runs on campus emergency standby generators. Maintains effective operation of Generators, synchronous motors, and motor generators in accordance with CMS department of Health Standards using electrical and mechanical tools and testing instruments. Works on Hot Electrical systems in adherence to safety rules, precautions and procedures, including the use of appropriate safety equipment. Troubleshoot and repair electrical control equipment needed for distribution around the campus. Reads blueprints to trace underground routing of electrical cable. Troubleshoot electrical failures on equipment using electrical drawings and/or schematics. Use advanced math to calculate voltage drop and/or line load to size the proper protection and wire size for electrical circuits and power distribution. Selects and uses appropriate splice kit and tape for line repair. Use analog and digital multi-meter, megger, oscilloscope, amp probe and other electrical test equipment. Complies with legal, procedural, safety and record-keeping requirements for secondary voltage electrical work up to 480 volts. Installs, tests, operates and maintains coaxial cable, twisted pair wire, and other cabling required to connect information technology hardware. Use Microsoft office for communication i.e. signs, label's, power point notebook. Installs, tests and maintains Campus wide Energy Management System and equipment. Performs hardware and software diagnostics to isolate and correct functional problems. Utilizes various types of equipment to test, troubleshoot, and identify network problems. be able to coordinate new electrical projects and communicate with other trades in order to complete a project efferently. Installs, maintains and/or repairs communication, signal and/or fire alarm systems by following written or oral instructions, following blueprints, following manufacturer's guidelines and/or by applying generally accepted trade practices in order to ensure that our communications and signal needs are met and to ensure the fire alarm is operating at 100% efficiency. Maintains electrical systems, devices, and equipment by servicing, testing, repairing, and locating defects with the use of common electrical tools, equipment, testing services, and other related items in order to provide safe, functioning systems and continuity of service. Estimate time and material needed for projects. Work with outside contractors and service reps. Instruct lower-level electricians and trade helpers on electrical projects. Performs preventive maintenance by following the instructions on the pre-established, pre-scheduled P.M. work orders in order to insure for the continued operation of equipment and systems. Performs other related duties by following instructions of supervisor in order to provide for continuity of services. These other duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to other trades work, laboring, housekeeping, grounds, and some light equipment operation within your capabilities. Performs work in environmentally challenging situations, unless medically contraindicated by utilizing respirators, being trained in, but not necessarily limited to lead worker, asbestos worker, and/or related training as may be required by R2K. This work is in order to safely comply with various rules, laws, and/or standards while at the same time meeting the needs of this facility. This position is considered “Emergency Essential” as defined in DHS Manual 7136.3 and must comply with all aspects of local Policy/Procedure 102.078. |
