Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively.

The primary purpose of this position is to assist foresters of the Moshannon State Forest in attaining the annual timber harvest allocation goal, primarily in the areas of GPS data collection, timber sale analysis data collection, marking and tallying timber, regeneration project input, and the use of GIS to prepare maps for various purposes.

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Conducts GPS surveys and marks boundaries of timber sales, herbicide blocks, planting projects and other regeneration fund projects as laid out by a forester.

Assists in collection of stand analysis data for the purpose of proposing silvicultural treatments on the Moshannon State forest land under the direction of a forester.

Enters stand analysis data into appropriate stand analysis program and prepares reports for foresters.

Using GIS, prepares maps of timber sales and regeneration fund projects for foresters on the Moshannon State Forest.

Participates in marking and tallying timber in accordance with Bureau guidelines for the purpose of preparing timber sales laid out by a forester.

Participates in the collection of deer density and browsing impact data on the Moshannon State Forest.

Participates in completion of landscape examinations, and compiles information for use in decision making by foresters.

Coordinates tree planting projects following plans developed by foresters on the Moshannon State Forest.

Assists in planning, constructing and maintenance of appropriate deer exclosure fences where necessary to promote better forest tree regeneration.

Participates in and oversees forest herbicide applications when prescribed to control undesirable vegetation.

Assists in the control of forest diseases and insects; conducts ground and flight-based field surveys and prepares simple maps; prepares and delivers insecticides; and assists in the conduct of experimental projects.

Assists in the implementation of recreation projects designed by and under the direction of foresters on the Moshannon State Forest.

Participates in fire suppression activities by completing required wildland firefighter training courses and working actively in suppression activities, as needed.

Participate in educational activities to teach the general public as the need arises.

Prepares a variety of reports and records.

Other duties as assigned.
