Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position oversees and administers the Fire Safety Program for all DGS managed facilities and serves as the Agency Safety Coordinator, Safety Committee Chairperson, and agency AREP to PEMA. The role directs accident and illness prevention, right to know chemical compliance, hazardous substance control, environmental programs, asbestos abatement, and supervises the Safety Inspection Supervisors and their teams. The position also functions as the primary liaison to the Bureau of Capital Projects on fire safety improvements and life safety code compliance. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Directs and manages the Accident and Illness Prevention Program (AIPP) as the Agency Safety Coordinator and chairs the Agency Safety Committee to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. Administers the Right‑to‑Know Chemical Program, including SDS management, chemical inventories, labeling, training, and regulatory documentation. Oversees hazardous substance management programs, ensuring safe storage, handling, and disposal practices across all DGS‑managed locations. Leads environmental compliance initiatives related to waste management, spills, air/water considerations, and facility environmental safeguards. Manages and maintains the Fire Safety Program for all DGS‑managed facilities, including inspections, evacuation drills, risk assessments, and corrective actions. Serves as primary liaison with the Bureau of Capital Projects on life safety code requirements and incorporates fire safety needs into design and construction processes. Acts as the designated Agency Representative (AREP) to PEMA and coordinates emergency preparedness, response, and continuity planning activities. Supervises two Safety Inspection Supervisors and their inspection teams, establishing goals, directing workloads, and ensuring high‑quality inspection practices. Administers asbestos abatement activities, including surveys, notifications, abatement planning, contractor oversight, and post‑clearance verification. Develops safety policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with applicable codes, laws, and best practices. Conducts facility safety and environmental audits, documents findings, and directs corrective and preventive actions. Provides training and educational programs on fire safety, hazard communication, emergency procedures, and job‑specific safety requirements. Investigates incidents and near misses, performs root cause analyses, and recommends corrective actions to reduce future risk. Coordinates with facility managers, operations staff, and contractors to resolve safety concerns and ensure program expectations are met. Prepares reports, dashboards, and compliance documentation for executive leadership, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders. Other Duties as assigned |
