Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Serves as special assistant to the Deputy Secretary, Office of Parole Field Services of the Department of Corrections providing a wide range of executive support.

Description of Duties:

Manages special projects relating to the internal executive activities of the Office of Parole Field Services

Drafts sensitive position papers, memoranda, articles, policy/procedure, program evaluations, organizational analyses, etc. in consultation and coordination with appropriate DOC and external departments and bureaus requiring significant knowledge/expertise in community supervision and correctional evidence-based practices intended for a wide variety of audiences.

Drafts sensitive correspondence, reports and other documents relating to field probation and parole activities.

Represents the Deputy Secretary of Field Services at events, public forums, meetings, etc. to articulate agency policy and objectives and engender public support for agency programs.

Advises top management of new developments and national trends in corrections impacting agency programs;
At the direction of the Deputy Secretary, presents information, conducts presentations, and otherwise represents Deputy Secretary at conferences, trainings, meetings, etc. attended by DOC stakeholders/various community groups to provide and solicit information and/or engender support for agency initiatives.

Oversees quality control of the development and completion of various agency projects/initiatives pertaining to offender supervision. Analyzes agency initiatives/practices and recommends actions necessary to implement the initiative and coordinates with appropriate staff to assure completion.

Coordinates with agency bureaus regarding agency research projects, evaluations, validations, and updates to items such as decisional instruments, risk/needs assessments (for example, Violence Forecasting) and supervision interventions, and develops recommendations for program policy impacting agency programs.

Periodically reviews, in coordination with the Office of Reentry staff, the data of agency projects related to the effective management of technical parole violators both in the community and in detention to identify operational outcome issues requiring corrective actions.

Reviews internal statistical reports in concert with the Statistical Reporting and Evidence-Based Program Evaluation Office to identify trends in data on various topics/programs. Reports observed trends and makes recommendations to the Deputy Secretary to be considered for presentation to leadership, based on these observations.

At the direction of the Deputy Secretary, serves as representative with contacts at Department of Corrections, other federal, state, or local agencies, county probation departments, and other outside agencies to provide or solicit information on shared programs.

Acts as primary liaison with the Attorney General’s office regarding forfeitures.

Coordinates with the Office of Reentry to facilitate the implementation of initiatives, policies and/or procedures affecting both program areas.

Reviews and drafts responses to external reports, survey questionnaires, etc.

Assists Deputy Secretary in developing and reviewing the annual budget request by reviewing all program proposals for adherence to overall administration and agency goals and initiatives.

Recommends key leaders in the field of criminogenics for training and consultation in unique areas such as gender issues, diversity issues, and high-risk offenders.

Coordinates and oversees the Citizens Advisory Committee’s Statewide meetings.

Manages and maintains the Confidential Informant program.

Oversees the progress of agency initiatives and directs/redirects work on behalf of Deputy Secretary.

Using personal expertise and knowledge, crafts recommendations to the Deputy Secretary pertaining to information found in literature, statistics and other sources related to agency initiatives and practices.

Independently articulates the Deputy Secretary’s vision to a wide variety of agencies and audiences in order to engender support for various initiatives.

Using personal expertise and knowledge, drafts various forms of sensitive correspondence, analyses, etc. on behalf of the Deputy Secretary, and coordinates with appropriate staff regarding the information.
