Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. To maintain the Weiser State Forest Lands, Buildings, and Picnic Areas via the operation of listed and/or similar equipment, including but not limited to the construction of; shaping, filling, and smoothing road and parking lot surfaces; snow removal as required; clearing brush and debris along the roadways; and installing and maintaining culverts and other road drainage systems. Locates, investigates, and reports on wildfire hazards. Understands and follows rules, regulations and policies relating to fire suppression. Maintains and repairs wildfire suppression equipment and tools as needed. Performs assigned duties and serves as crew leader during fire suppression activities when directed. Follows all district policies regarding fire season duties, schedules, and availability during nonstandard work hours. Respond to wildfires as directed and work to control the fire or mop up as assigned. Operates fire control tools and equipment. Informs supervisor of possible fire hazards or dangers. Operates two-way radio |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. To service and maintain operated equipment, including assisting in performing major repairs on equipment as assigned. To assist in preventing and suppressing wildfires via the operation of listed and/or similar equipment. Assist in conducting forest fire prevention programs through public contacts, utilizing all available resources to enable the forest district to attain its wildfire suppression goals. Maintains assigned wildfire suppression equipment to ensure readiness in the event of a wildfire. Assists in detecting wildfires as assigned, engaging in vehicular patrol and other duties, to ensure early discovery of wildfires occurring in the forest district. Assists in wildfire suppression activities as required, utilizing available equipment and tools and directing manpower as assigned. Effective wildfire suppression requires the sound application of the learned knowledge of wildfire behavior and the application of appropriate wildfire control techniques. Assists in and conducts wildfire investigations by determining cause and origin, taking notes, conducting interviews and interrogations, securing evidence, and appearing as a Commonwealth witness as required by law. To act as work leader, as assigned, on projects involving seasonal employees, special work project crews, special program crews, forest fire crews, volunteer fire company crews, etc. To perform manual work projects when not operating equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining state forest boundaries, buildings, roads, tree planting, and assisting Foresters and Forest Technicians in timber management, surveying, protecting forest lands from insect and disease attacks, and similar tasks. To complete forms such as daily activity records, automotive and fuel reports, leave slips, etc. *Class A Commercial Driver's License without restriction for airbrakes with commercial endorsements for tank is a requirement for this position. An additional commercial endorsement for Hazmat is desirable. Employee is expected to operate the listed motor vehicles and similar equipment as required. ON ROAD EQUIPMENT LESS THAN 17,000 LBS.: 1/2-ton trucks, 3/4-ton trucks, 1-ton trucks, 5/4-ton trucks ON ROAD EQUIPMENT 17,000 LBS. G.V.W. TO 32,000 LBS. G.V.W.: 2 1/2 Ton Tankers, 2 Ton Roll-back truck, Dump trucks (under 32,000 lbs G.V.W.), and Stake body truck ON ROAD EQUIPMENT EXCEEDING 32,000 LBS. G.V.W. 5 Ton Tankers, Dump trucks OFF-ROAD EQUIPMENT 550H John Deere dozer**,750B John Deere dozer, and any other heavy equipment the district owns. **(Equipped with all attachments) |
