Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Grades earthen and stone State Forest roads using a road grader to cut and finish the road surface to specified grades and smoothness. Operates a track or rubber-tired loader to pickup, move, and dump or load shale, stone, rocks and other earth or vegetative materials at various work locations. Operate bulldozers on construction sites to move earth or other material. This requires the ability to level earth to workmanlike standards using this type of equipment. This position requires the ability to construct fire breaks following current wildfire fighting standards utilizing bulldozers or track loaders. The position requires the operation of bulldozers or other equipment to pull agriculture equipment for the development and preparation of herbaceous openings. Operates snow groomers to smooth and prepare snow surfaces on snowmobile roads and trails. Operates farm-type tractor and stone rake to remove stones and other debris to smooth state forest roads or prepare seed beds for establishing vegetation on retired roads. Operates tractors with side or rear-mounted flail or rotary mowers for the clearing of woody and herbaceous vegetation and other material adjacent to roads and other areas. Operate dump and other trucks in excess of 32,000 pounds GVWR and up to 80,000 pounds GCWR for the movement of materials or equipment. Operate pick-up trucks, dump trucks with or without trailer and tilt-bed truck to move equipment and materials at or to various work locations. In addition to operating equipment, employee performs preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs on vehicles and equipment and assists mechanics making major repairs to equipment. When not assigned to equipment operation, employee performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of public facilities, buildings, roads, trails, bridges, and grounds. The performance of work requires the utilization of tools and equipment associated with various trade areas to include the operation of a chain saw. When not assigned to equipment operation, employee performs a variety of construction and maintenance work to include cleaning culverts, seeding roads, building headwalls, cutting grass, digging post holes, painting, and brushing State Forest boundary lines. Most senior salaried or seasonal person may function as a lead worker in absence of Forest Maintenance Supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned.
